When you guys buy your cypress do you bake it or microwave it or anything to kill any insects or parasites living inside it? I buy cypress from Lowes or Home Depot and it alwys has small frogs and insects in it.

I have never had that problem with the cypress I use and if I did I think I would be looking for a new brand.......

Well down here in FL its so humid and rainy most of the year that cypress mulch housed out doors like at most stores is a great home for all sorts of stuff:)

The frogs I'd keep as a bonus..:) Seriously you need to try to find pure cypress with the pure grade A stuff you wouldn't have any issues. Cypress is a natural insecticide so with the pure stuff you won't need to microwave or bake it.

Do you guys buy yours at places like Home Depot, Lowes and Wal-Mart? Or somewhere more specialized?

The only issue you most likely will have with good cypress are these little bugs that love poop. harmless but freaky.

I use to bake mine before I got the good stuff, but wife never like that so now i usually just spray a little provent a mite if I get it from some where other than my usual source.

I still can't find any cypress at any of my local stores Lowes,Home depot,Tractor Supply, etc. So I'm still towels and Aspen for now. I'd like to try some though =)

I use cypress ocassionaly when we need a little humidity bump, just mix some in with the aspen in the balls tubs. I don't really use enough of it to go out and buy a big old bale of it so I just usually get it from NERD. It's a bit pricey but I haven't had any problems with it so I think it's worth it.

I emailed the company after Phil's suggestion in another post and I haven't been happier with it. The other stuff is trash in comparision.

They should be able to point you to someone close that carries their product...

Just give Kalmar a call and give them your zipcode and they can tell you if anyone around you buys from them.......
