Gaboons scare me. They have "flip top heads" like in the Reach Toothbrush Commercials. Never have I seen a snake's mouth open as wide as a Gaboon's.

Pretty girl, though. ((((((shudder)))))

There is no antivenin for Bitis manufactured here in the US... The AV for this species in a polyvalent made in South Africa called SAIMR... It is not easy to obtain here in the US but it is not impossible to get...

Thanks for that. I always wondered what keepers did about antivenin for exotic hots. Would what they use normally here in the states be effective for gaboon bites? If not, it makes keeping these beauts just that much more risky doesn't it?

They use SAIMR for the bites from Bitis here in the US... AV banks and zoos carry it... I had my own but it is now expired... It is not impossible to get imported to this country by a "regular joe", but there is TONS of paperwork involved... At the moment I am in the middle of trying to get more in legally...

Again thanks. Now if I could just get the wife to leave I could get a Gaboon :lmao: :lmao:

OK a dumb question now, as long as I'm askin', how does one go about measuring something potentially deadly without at least some risk?

I just pick her up and drape her around my neck and use a tape measure... Isnt that what everyone does???

LOL Kidding ofcorse...

Its pretty easy... I have tile floors in the herp room... Each tile is a foot... I put them on the floor against the baseboard... They naturally straighten out and start to move... When the head reaches one of the lines, you look down the body to see where the tail ends...
