I was working on the enclosures today and decided to snap a few pictures of the reds. Thought that I would share.

Those are gorgeous Wil! And looking so sweet... Do you keep them in pairs year round then? Or put together in spring and seperate in winter? Just curious, never tried breeding them and don't know really how you go about it with them.

Thanks Sara. I have one enclosure with 1.3 and the other is 1.2, I keep them together usually through brumation also. I haven't had a clutch of reds yet, but I plan to separate the gravid females if any of them go.

That's cool! We keep our water monitors together year round, and they do what they do, but wasn't sure if you could do that with the teids or not. I hope that they go for you, would love to see some pics of baby reds, they are so darn cute!!

They are 5'x10' and as of now I have 6 of those. I am still in the process of expanding though.
Here are some pics to give you an idea.

I hope they do too. I don't like to count anything before it hatches. So we shall see. I am hoping for Reds and Blues this year, but we will see. I did see this in the pen today though.

Thanks. They are a lot of work, I still am not done with them. Although when they are outside and doing what they do it makes it all worth it.

You must be located somewhere warm enough to have them outside a fair amount?? That is an AMAZING set up!!! LOVE IT!

Yes I do. I live in South Carolina. The weather is normally perfect for keeping them outdoors.

Thanks again Sara. I will definitely be posting more pics as I get pens done and more of the tegus outside. After all the back ache work is done it is very fun and I really have no complaints.

Wil, first of all I love the set ups and wish you well in getting everybody outside in the weather :D. A question...............No offense but is the substrate for convience or is it their preference? I always assumed Tegus were more tropical. Not that I'm familiar with all species either. Just curious.

Thanks, and no offense taken by your question at all. The substrate is good ole' South Carolina fill dirt. When damp it makes a hell of a substrate, matter of fact I am going to be using it for the monitors. I am going to see how it does first, but I may have to get some top soil if nothing grows in it.
Although, I grew up in Michigan and my Dad's land had a lot of sand on it which plants did grow, and how can I forget about the sand burs. lol
As for the tegus environment, they come from a lot of different micro climates, from pampas grassland to the more tropical environments.

Very nice tegus and enclosures man.

Do you also keep the blues outside year round?

I'm doing research right now and am planning to do some outdoor tegu enclosures within the next year or hopefully sooner.

I really like your kennel set-up. I plan to do something similar but would like to have a walk way in the center with cages on both sides of the walkway and a simple plastic roof over all the pens.

Is that plastic or metal sheeting up the sides of the cages?

Wil

No the blues don't stay outside year round, I bring them all in when nighttime temps start getting low.
Also that is plastic sheeting.
Thanks
