The colors are awesome and I haven't figured out why I don't have more of these yet....next year I am adding a bunch. Pissy eaters and insanely slow growing but that's what happens when they live high on a mountain I guess...wanted to work with them for years just never took the plunge due to my old lack of patience with the feeding part but now I have no issues with waiting them out.
Thanks for looking...
norsmis 11-27-2008, 08:47 AM Nice Jeff!!! Beautiful specimen. The finicky eater part is why I gave up on the greybands. Talk about a picky eater!!!!!!
JChandler 11-27-2008, 08:52 AM Thanks Ron the greybands are another one that I am attempting to get my foot in the door on...just want to wrap my head around the locale stuff first before, plus you don't see them for sale that often.
norsmis 11-27-2008, 08:56 AM There used to be a ton of them for sale but to be honest, I dont know of anyone working with them right now. There are a lot of locales out there too. They are some of the calmest kings you will ever work with. Most of mine reminded me of my womas with there slow movements. Be ready to lizard scent though working with the greybands!
JChandler 11-27-2008, 08:59 AM No issues there...got little gargs that don't mind pinkies rubbed on them....lmao
I used to use the leos to scent with so I don't know if the gargs will work but I don't see why not...got a couple of rubber babies here that haven't eaten so I guess we'll find out.
norsmis 11-27-2008, 09:03 AM I had to resort to actually feeding some of them anoles to get them going and then wean them to scented pinks. Its a lot of work but worth it in my opinion... They are some of the most kings out there....
JChandler 11-27-2008, 09:10 AM I used to get some feeder anoles awhile back for something I had here but I hated them...used to get some feeder house geckos too but those were worse then the anoles then my vet gave me the tip of taking one that died and freezing it and cutting off little pieces and putting one stitch through the piece to the pink to get it to eat. Worked like a champ and was switched to just scented in 4 feedings and just pinks in 8....got to love the little things. Also told me of this slurry mix but we didn't go that route for scenting...
I don't mind the work as long as it doesn't end up being the entire clutch like I fear...lol
Varanus99 11-27-2008, 09:24 AM I gave up on the grey bands too. I only had one pair and bred them once. Whooo man were those babies a pain in the tush! Just trying to find pinkies SMALL enough for them was fun and then they didnt want the pinkies. I did the whole scenting thing. Started a couple on anole tails. Wrapped some pinkies in shed lizard skin. And I wont lie I lost some. Just couldnt get them going.
Beautiful kings but if I ever worked with colubrids again Id probably take a pass. I dont have the patience.
Oh and nice Knoblocki! Are they commonly known as Arizona Mt kings or am I thinking of another species?
Mrs. Sputnik 11-27-2008, 10:05 AM Nice little knob you have there Jeff but not sure if I could do the finicky eater part...good luck
Nice pics of that guy. :yessir:

I lose a certain number of little colubrids every year that just refuse to eat no matter what so I understand...I will go through some of the stuff but I will not force feed them.
I always spell it like I say it for some damn reason but it is really a lampropeltis pyromelana knoblochi or the Chihuahua mountian kingsnake....

I do too. I usually get most to eat but I have found that force feeding a corn isnt going to get it going and should be culled. I dont want those weak genes being passed on....
I will try all the tricks first but when I notice them going downhill, they get a cold nap.
tokaysunlimited 11-27-2008, 12:10 PM Looking good buddy!!!!!!
And i must say your picture skills have much improved over the past year!
anendeloflorien 11-27-2008, 12:45 PM Very nice king there Jeff! I love the look of the Knoblochis I just don't think I'd have the patience to raise them up lol.
I know of one place that is working with the gray-banded kings. Not sure how much success they've had with them though but they are definitely a cool looking animal.
JChandler 11-27-2008, 01:15 PM Thanks everyone...

Thanks, it is the container mixed with a good day for the camera really, my camera takes bad ass pics outside in bright sun but anywhere else forget it...I need a few more brighter lights in the light box but I am happy with it so far, all about location of the snake in the box right now.

FloridaHogs 11-27-2008, 06:29 PM Nifty little snake. I can't believe you only have one!!
JChandler 11-27-2008, 08:12 PM Thanks everyone!
Phil do you work with them now?
Jenea I am picky about them...want the brightest ones I can find plus giving the female a year or two head start isn't going to hurt anything...now if she'll just switch to rat pinks for me we'll see some damn growth, right now she is a mouse lover.
