Hey everyone. I wanted some tips on a project I want to do.
Im new to trying to breed bps And right now I only have a normal male.
I really like the bumblebees and I would like to produce some. I know that I need spiders and pastels. Im assuming the nicer the pastel the nicer the bee.Should I try for a certin line? how about lemon pastels? I was thinking I would get a male spider and 3 pastel girls. Does this sound like a good start? I was thinking I would also a male pastel to try for some super pastels.Hopefully if i get some bees from this I would then like to get some enchis breed them together and get some super enchis and breed them to the bee. would then like to get a lesser plati and tryfor a queen bee.
1. Do I have the genetics right?
2. Any tips on what sexs to get?
3. any other tips?
4. what ones should I hold back? I would probably hold them all. I guess.
I know this is a long term project and Im not looking to make a fast buck. I just wanna give trhis project a shot. Thanks for your input. anything I may be missing let me know?

Yea man that's the cheapest way to go as well. A word of advice be extremely selective in choosing your pastels and your spider. Be willing to buy the cream of the crop and pay a few extra bucks, if you do, you'll be very happy you did because high quality bees will always be a high commodity...

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. And I'm with Larry, be willing to be very selective and shop around. Also, you'll want to decide what females you want early since it can take 2-3 years to get them up to breeding size. Sounds like some fun projects though!

your right on track and seem to have been smart enough to plan it all out just like cornball said if your breed good parents youll get good babies

larry you said to pick good pastels. Im used to carpets and you look at the parents does the same apply to pastels? What should I look for? Are there any thing that sets one apart from another? Like I said I like the lemon pastel it pops to me but looking around it seems like some dull with age. IS this normal for the pastel or is that what you guys are talking about? Also what do I look for in a spider? The ones I looked at seem the same. I pretty much looked around at everyones sites and all the past guests on reptile radio what sets them apart is just the pattern? and do they change with age also? thanks again everyone. Im bit with the ball bug!

bro,
the best bet when looking for good pastels, besides the general "cleanness" of the babies you're looking at , is to have access to the parents. though the look of the animal you're planning to buy should be the first priority, the look of the parents will give you a reasonable indication of how that baby will hold up vs. father time. if someone has animals from pretty parents for sale, they'll make a point of having the parents (or pictures of ) available for you to see. good spiders will also tend to be cleaner looking than less desirable ones, if head wobble is an issue with you, make that a priority. i've got a gorgeous spider, that held her color well (already adult size) that has some twisting issues. she's a great animal in every way, sat on my lap the other night for twenty minutes without struggling, docile, clean patterned, eats everytime like she's been starved for a year, and, she's amazing on the dance floor ! but some people would have a problem with her twist.
i picked her 'cause she's so beautiful, that was my priority. could i have shopped for both traits, don't know that i'd have ever found them, the day i bought her i looked at twenty or so spiders at a show. she was the best looking. from what i've heard spiders wobble can get better, or worst with age, so who knows. at some point you have to pull the trigger. "paralysis by analysis" can keep you from ever buying anything. i knew the guy i bought her from, was comfortable with the deal, and i bought her. now she's one of my faves !
good luck with your ultimate decision,
ck
