View Full Version : Climbing branch finished.
FloridaHogs 11-27-2008, 08:54 PM Well, my first attempt at burning PVC, and I am pretty happy with it. I did learn that the couplings burn differently than the regular PVC, and that it stinks! LOL! So here is my finished product.

Great job Jenea. Looks sharp!:yourock:
Varanus99 11-27-2008, 09:05 PM Looks awesome! I never thought about burning PVC until I hit the Bush-League.
But I have done my share of plumbing and I do know that if you take a torch to PVC the smell is not all pleasant. Dont breathe that stuff in! Always burn your PVC in a well ventilated area, LOL!
Looks really, really cool and Im diggin' the ladder effect. Who's the lucky tenant of that neat-o keen-o cage?
Sputnik 11-27-2008, 09:05 PM Looks like an African camo job, very nice.... did you have fun doing it?
JChandler 11-27-2008, 09:19 PM I am surprised you could post pics after the fumes....
Looks great....
BryonsBoas 11-27-2008, 10:40 PM Looks good. I'll be trying that for the Sabogae cages soon.
smilin-buddha 11-28-2008, 06:17 AM That came out very nice. Just what I was talking about. I like the top. I would have never thought to do it like that.

anendeloflorien 11-28-2008, 02:24 PM Nice! What did you use to burn it with? That came out really cool and it looks nice and sturdy :D
BryonsBoas 11-28-2008, 02:44 PM What is a Sabogae cage?
Sabogae boas. Insular Island species that shows tendencies towards being arboreal as well as the ability to live as a ground boa.
Our male likes the top lip of his cage door but he's getting big enough that he'll flip off these days. They needs a climbing perch and I had forgotten all about doing PVC.
FloridaHogs 11-28-2008, 04:29 PM Thanks all. For a first attempt and I am very happy with it. Cost less than $20 to make, easy to sterilize, removable for cage mantenance, and looks pretty cool! :)
Adam, I used my dad's blow torch to burn it.
JOHNS6068 11-29-2008, 06:02 PM I like the PVC idea it looks like it turned out pretty well. I have used real branches and cooked them in the oven. But I'm limited to the size because of doing that. With the PVC I could basically make any size pretty cool idea. Also the camo does make it look more real and not just plain white pvc. I may try this one my self on my next cage I redo =) Thanks for sharing!!
Gator 11-29-2008, 07:08 PM Great job on the PVC-I'm really jealous!
Larry 11-29-2008, 07:15 PM If you wouldn't have told it was burned, I would have never guessed. It looks like a custom climb.. Nice job..:)
147BOAS 12-01-2008, 07:50 AM very nice
jknudson 12-01-2008, 01:51 PM Great job, I really like the look of those torched PVC perches and branches. Now I just need something arboreal to make one for! LOL
Mrs. Sputnik 12-01-2008, 02:41 PM Great job on the climbing branch....Now where is the jcp on it????

Working on that....
So, I played around with the idea of adding some greenry to the branch. What do you think?

Sure, why not.... :yessir:
xanaxez 12-01-2008, 04:19 PM very nice job on the burning, it actually looks liek it's on fire with the coloring of it. the only thing i'm wondering though is isnt that kind of a small cage for an adult jcp or is it just that small in the picture? looks like a 2x2 area to me in the picture.
FloridaHogs 12-01-2008, 04:36 PM 3 x 2 x 2 cage. The perch itself is 12" wide. I have everything situtated up front, so the entire length of the back is open and unobstructed.
tokaysunlimited 12-01-2008, 05:13 PM Told ya it works.:yessir:
Looks good Jenea!:yourock:
FloridaHogs 12-01-2008, 05:18 PM Thanks Jeremy!
