View Full Version : Zombie movies
Varanus99 11-27-2008, 09:34 PM Im a zombie movie nut. I love the living dead. I dont know why. But gimme me a movie with a bunch of rotting corpses feeding on the living and Im a happy guy!
The two most well know series are "The Return" series and "The Dawn" series. They are easy to distinguish.
The Return series which started with Return of the Living Dead in 1985 is more horror/comedy than The Dawn series. Also in Return the zombies only eat brains. Not the whole body. Anyone who has seen this series will recall their frantic cries of "BRAINS!". Return of the Living Dead is my favorite of the series and features the punk rock kids running around being chased my zombies brought back to life by the trioxin gas. Chaos ensues, fun stuff. Classic scene of scream queen Linnea Quigley as Trash stripping in the graveyard. Brain eating zombies and boobies, what more can you want?
There are 5 returns to my knowledge. The last 2 were straight to video release. They got progressively worse as the series went on. The fifth is just about unwatchable. #3 is kinda cool though. The one with the chick who turns into a zombie and the only thing that can stop her craving for brains is pain. So she pierces the hell out of herself finally losing control and going zombie full throttle. Kewl.
The Dawn series by Romero is more serious and has more social commentary. If thats possible in a zombie movie. My favorite of thise series is of course Dawn of the Dead which took place mainly in a shopping mall. I even liked the remake! In the remake the zombies run while in the original they are slow moving. While I do like the slow moving, creepy zombies the ones that could run added some action to the film.
This all started with Night of the Living Dead in 1968 (Remade in 1990). Then we had Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, the remake of Dawn and Land of the Dead (Pretty cool, a different slant, coulda used more zombies). All pretty good stuff if ya like zombies that is.
Plenty of other zombie movies out there not made by Romero or The Return crew. Most are stunningly bad but some are fun nonetheless. Island of the Dead comes to mind.
Plus Ive always wanted to smash me some zombies!! :machinegun:
"When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk th earth"

I liked the remake Dawn of the Dead, but it freaked me out so much I don't dare watch it again.
BryonsBoas 11-27-2008, 10:44 PM I love Zombie movies. Nothing like kicking back with B rated Zombie flicks for Stupid Movie night.
Has anyone seen Zombie Trailer park yet? The guy at the movie rental place said it was pretty good if you are into Zombie flicks.
Varanus99 11-27-2008, 10:47 PM Never caught Zombie Trailer Park but it sounds gloriously stupid. Ill have to look into that one.
I liked Shawm of the Dead. Not one of my favs as I like a little more horror and a little less comedy but definitely a worthy edition to the zombie genre.
JChandler 11-27-2008, 10:50 PM I didn't see the trailer park one but I did sit through Zombie Strippers, that was interesting....
BryonsBoas 11-27-2008, 10:55 PM There are a couple rental places here. One has a few B rated horror movies and the other has them by the wagon load. I was surprised how many had Zombies. When I can , I'm going to rent as many of the Zombie flicks and veg out for 2 - 3 days.
Varanus99 11-27-2008, 11:10 PM I didn't see the trailer park one but I did sit through Zombie Strippers, that was interesting....
Classic. Any movie with Robert Englund AND Jenna Jameson cant be all bad!
Not much on zombies, but then I cut my teeth on the likes of Bela Lasgosis Dracula, Lon Chaneys Wolf Man and Boris Karlofs Mummy, and the Creature From The Black Lagoon all in black and white mind ya. Then along came Abbott and Costello meets _______, each one of them individually :wamma:.

Dude, I watched your sons trailer. He's 9? NINE??? I couldnt tie my shoe at nine and hes making movies!
He's got the zombie thing down. The walk, I LOVED when he popped up from the back of the truck that was awesome. And then when he fell to the ground and kinda struggled like he was having a hard time moving. Thats zombie! And the faces in the rear view mirror! Oh baby! The background music. Just fantastic. It was creepy. He hit it. Ive seen college kids make trailers that werent that good. Who was the girl was that his sister? Obviously Im very impressed. Id like to pre-order a copy of the DVD when it comes out.
Looks like he has at least 4 fans here waiting for its release. Get a move on Tokay Jr.!! :)
DEAD ALIVE is just too cool for words. Total classic. Complete over the top and wonderful. Every zombie fan should see it. I kick ass for the Lord! LOL!!
I caught Zombie 1 ages ago never saw 2. Will have to look into that.

Thats mine to but some of the older ones even as poorly done as they are. Are some of the best I think!!!
xanaxez 11-29-2008, 02:42 PM i am a horror movie fanatic and i think i own about all of them made lol but some of this newer stuff is crap. the older zombie movies are the best though when it comes to zombies and i have always liked night of the living dead. there is a few more about to come out that seem interesting but i will not comment on them untill i have watched them. but i will say this do not waste your movie to watch twilight it was a very dissapointing movie imo.
