4/29/10- I did my good deed for the day and for the reptile Gods
I was on my way to work today and saw this anchient blandings turtle about to cross the highway to get to a lake, I pulled over and helped it get across the highway safely, took a couple pics and then released her down in the ditch by the lake. She, (assuming it was a big female) was either just out of brumation or nesting, but she would have surely been hit by a car while crossing the road in rush hour morning traffic if I wouldn't have helped her across the road. By the looks of her shell she is very old and hopefully she has made lots of babies and will be able to make lots more in the future to counter all the road casualties. The blandings turtle used to be a common siting for me when I was a kid but seeing one now is a rare treat, so I felt very blessed just to see one and help it across the road.

Thanks guys, i hope she will fare well too and lay lots of eggs. My effort to save that blandings turtles life was rewarded that night by the reptile gods when my 3-stripe mud turtle female laid 6 good looking eggs- a first for her and for me. They are incubating at 83 degrees, I took some pics and will post as soon as I get them uploaded.
