Out of curiosity, I'm looking for something better then aspen, it's okay, but I'd like something better..... so what substrate are you using for the lunatic leapers?

Paper towels. Just tonight I switched a bunch of my hatchlings to sphagnum, and they don't seem to be ready for it. Some of mine aren't very accurate when chasing down crickets, and generally end up with a face full of paper towel, but now they are getting moss, too, and trying to eat it, so they are getting switched back.

I switched one of my trios over to a moss and coconut fiber mix, and I'm going to give them a day on it, but I'm thinking I will switch them back to paper since I don't feel like searching for eggs if the females decide to not use the nest box.

So, it looks like I will be using paper towels until I find something that will hold humidity better and will be just as convenient as paper.

I used coco fibre/eco earth in the past until I saw my crested dive on a cricket and take a mouth full of substrate aswell as the cricket, switched over to paper towel now after seeing that ..

yes i too used eco earth but the cresteds tend to eat alot of it. since then its paper towels for babies and newspaper for the adults...of course this means yu have to change out the substrate more but its a lot better I think

Ahhh only little bits at a time. Also I would avoid using broken glass or burning coals. I got your message Scott but haven't been able to respond. I'll try to give you a call this week.
