View Full Version : How often do you weigh them?
skm0308 11-29-2008, 07:09 PM I love knowing how much my balls weigh. I weigh mine monthly, but mainly because I own a lot of '07's and I'm trying to get weight on them. There's nothing like seeing that 75-100 gm weight gain in a month, but then you'll have that month they don't eat for shit and I'm looking at 25 gms.
What about you more seasoned owners, do you keep weights on them and if so how often?
Larry 11-29-2008, 07:11 PM I used to weigh them every 30days but that lasted about a year. Now I rarely weigh them at all, unless it's a young male I'm trying to get up to size..
jasballs 11-29-2008, 07:15 PM I dont weigh any of them anymore unless someone asks how much they weigh.
Sputnik 11-29-2008, 07:15 PM If a female or male looks to be approaching breeding size I weigh em just to see where they are at....otherwise, I don't bother.
I weigh and measure mine after every shed.
constrictorkeeper 11-29-2008, 08:04 PM quigster...
i am of the "weighing while they're growing more often" school of thinking.
i keep feeding cards that include dumps and sheds, and have often used data for personal enlightenment. do you guys know that some balls can drop 12% of their body weight after a long awaited dump ?
...that's great stuff to know, especially during "plump the ladies" time. or how about during the "stuff the sausage" time when you're tryin' to get that little multi-morph male up to size in 2.75 months.
really for my own understanding more than anything else.
once girls get over 2kg i very rarely weigh them.

JOHNS6068 11-29-2008, 08:15 PM I weigh mine every couple months or so. Not religious about it though.
Tosha 11-29-2008, 08:36 PM I'm a non weigher myself -- I'll pull all the potential breeder girls out at the beginning of October and weigh them -- but that's about it.
Chris 11-29-2008, 09:34 PM After every shed I get them weighed.
During there shed process I try to skip feeding so they'll give me a good approximate weigh in, and this gives them time to clean out there bodies leaving me with a brown gift at the end of the shed. Once they've dumped everything out I get them weighed, record it and get them feeding again.
JChandler 11-29-2008, 09:47 PM New additions only...other ones randomly if I am tracking weight during an extra long fast.
grunt_11b2007 11-29-2008, 10:55 PM I usually try and weigh mine monthly.. I like to know how much they gain and record their weights on the index cards..

luciddream 11-30-2008, 02:33 AM I weigh the smaller ones every month or so. I don't weigh all of them, but most of them. The bigger ones I rarely weigh, unless they are breeding, fasting or need to gain weight back.
ck, it is interesting to look through the data that's been collected and see how things add up.
TnT Reptiles 11-30-2008, 03:14 AM I like to weigh the babies monthly. The bigger ones only during breeding season once a month.
woodage 11-30-2008, 05:49 AM Breeder males never really. Females I really want to get upto weight.........all the frickin time!!
West Coast Pythons 11-30-2008, 06:20 AM youngsters every 30 days and females before picking breeders for the season.
CBMorphs 11-30-2008, 07:44 AM I only weight them for breeding purposes. I am in the same boat you are. I have a few 07 girls that I really want to go this year. I weigh them every time I clean cages, which is about every three days. I know this is overkill, but I can't help myself. lol. The girls that I am weighing are: het pied, pastel het ghost, and het ghost. If they gain some weight I have a pied lined up for the het pied, and a pastel ghost lined up for the other two.
I weigh and measure mine after every shed.
same here.....
anendeloflorien 12-02-2008, 11:24 AM I usually weigh everyone once a month. Just helps me to keep track of where everybody is at. I'm sure if I had more than the 20 I have now it would be different but as it is I like to know what's going on with all my little guys. Plus with the small corns it's nice to know their weight generally as it gives me a better indication of where they should be at prey wise.
WinstonHS 12-02-2008, 12:27 PM I do a total room claening once a month so I usually weigh them then.
Buckskin 12-16-2008, 12:36 AM Young males I'll watch there weight tell 600 grams . Females before breeding season and after egg laying.
Naples9 12-16-2008, 12:44 AM I'm on the every shed band wagon...just seems like a good natural time to update the records!
ssscales 12-16-2008, 07:07 AM Depends on the time of year and the plans. This time of the year I'm weighing certain girls and boys every month or so checking weights trying to get up a few extra grams. Usually every 3MO or so I may weigh everyone and see how they are doing.
FloridaHogs 12-16-2008, 07:49 AM I like to weigh every shed, and after eggs are laid, but it does not always happen.
Drew87 12-16-2008, 08:01 AM I only weigh females, and right now its every 2 weeks seeing if they are gaining weight possbile eggs growing.
Albey 12-16-2008, 01:15 PM I only weigh the ones I am selling after every shed to update my site.
sdreptiles 12-18-2008, 12:30 PM I weigh all then the first of every month. That way I can see who is growing and how much, and who is not.
