People have no dignity when it comes to snagging potential buyers anymore. I see more tacky ads these days than I've ever seen before.

Just about every ad on KS has "OBO" aka "Or Best Offer" on the end. I thought OBO was reserved for flea markets, newspaper classifieds and used cars? Guess not these days.

How about "Call for best price!" another classic technique for sneaking a little pee in the pool without your fellow breeders knowing your real prices. Your not fooling anyone ;)

Of course we do see the occasional "Buy one, get one free" ads which are always refreshing.

I love this time of year...:letsparty:

:lmao: I was going to say then stop reading my ads but that would be a tacky response :lmao:

Got to love the spring/summer/fall/winter clearance sales...

I've been guilty of using the best offer in my ads in the past but I did it as more of lets talk, trade whatever not as your actual best offer...lol

I just saw a good one on KS. Guy was selling a clutch of eggs laid on the 15th. Super Pastel to Spider,, 6 eggs, for $1500. Does he really expect anyone to bite. Who is to say it wasn't really 6 eggs from normal to normal, and you won't know for at least 50 days.

Great post Bro.

A funny ad I saw was.....

If you bought the babies RIGHT out of the egg, they were this price.

If he had to feed them and get them started, they were even more expensive.

I think the more you see the OBO the more desperate people become to sell their animals. It's also one of the causes of market crash. Right now the economy sucks, unemployment rate is way up, and people are producing too many animals for the market to handle. I will say, I never put OBO in my ads. It's really kind of stupid, it tells people right off the bat that you will come down. I think everyone has come down on something at one time or another. Someone will offer you a lower amount then what you are asking, it happens to all of us. But, you are right, there is no need to put OBO in an ad. I think it shows desperation more then anything.

The other problem is with constant pending legislation on the table that could severely damage or destroy the whole industry destroys buyer confidence. Try selling a boa right now.... it's extremely difficult. And I have heard some sellers of boas as an example have had sales just totally dry up....

If you notice the first three letters of my user name spell boa. I am very much into boas, as I have about 100 of them. I didn't even breed them this year. That is how bad the boa market is. I wasn't going to produce babies I could not sell. In 2009 we saw the boa market plumet, and 2010 is going to be even worse. You are right about the legislation having a negative affect on the market. It's a shame because every time I go into a boa forum somewhere and someone is showing off their new baby boas, it just makes me feel bad in a way, because they are just adding to the market crashing. Right now is not a good time to be producing baby boas, unless you are eating them yourself, because that just might be the only way you will get rid of them. Nice post.

Hey Tim
What the heck are you complaining about?:dunno: Those were your eggs I was selling.:eek:

I guess what really bothers me is now you almost have to put FIRM on your prices if your not willing to deal, not that that really does much good. It used to be if you were selling something for a lised price THAT's what you wanted for it, period.:yessir:

Not anymore. List price only means negotiations start from here. OBO means knock off 300.00 then negotiations starts..:lmao::lmao:

I think that's how car salesmen work.... "list price" means "paid price" lol.... can we swap??? make car prices negotiable instead of snake prices.... that black w/ pink pinstripe camaro sure would look good in my drive way for 10K instead of 20K... :D
