Hey everyone :), I am wondering does anyone see the prices of GTPs dropping in the near future?. I guess there prices have dropped a bit but still not exactly cheap.. I know there are alot more people working with them now then in the past so I would assume there prices should start to drop.. Im just curious because they are probly my fav python species and been on my want list for years but dont generally have $300-$500 laying around that I can spend on a snake :(..

Alot of people working with them doesn't mean there is alot of people breeding them...they are not colubrids or bp's so no I don't see the prices going anywhere anytime soon IMO.

You have to realize; chondro hatchlings, to be captive bred and born, and then established eaters, take more time and work than any other species I know of. That is the simple reason for the price level on them for "starters". It can easily take hours of patience to get a single animal ready for sale at the level that most chondro breeders adhere to.
On the other side of that, imports have a high mortality rate, so the ones that live have to suck up the losses on the ones that died.

I dont see them dropping much. I agree with JC. More people working with them doesnt always mean more hatchlings available. They are a very challenging species.

I'm not a big follower of the GTP market -- but have been watching the classies for a potential mate for Verde and I've noticed a lot of Chondro people are cutting back and getting out this year. I guess the same can be said for breeders across the board -- but when the die hard chondro people start letting go breeder sized animals for almost the price of a hatchling or juvie it's bound to make an impact.

I see your point but how many of those adults they are selling are going to actually reproduce or for that matter, survive? I think this is a species that will stay pretty steady....

I hope they never drop. they shouldnt become "affordable"
300 or more is not unreasonable at all for the species, especially if you are a serious keeper. I think i would cry the day i saw 50.00 GTPS......

i agree there is no reason for a price drop on these animals the people you see droping these prices are usually selling wc animals,
