I have a female butter that is about 3 years old. I was hoping to breed her this year, but once again she went off feed a few weeks ago. I've tried everything. She only eats when she wants to eat. Ever since I got her, she has been a pain to get eat.

I just went outside to weigh her. She was tightly wrapping her bowl. However, she is only 1050 grams. What do you guys think? Should I give her a go?

I don't see much of a reason not to unless you want to try to wait another year for a larger clutch. But even then, if you breed her this year and she packs the weight back on after she lays, she could go again next year at a larger weight anyway.

Im inclined to agree with Diana since some animals are just smaller than others. She may be a picky eater her whole life so I say go for it. I have even had males that refused to eat until I put them with a female for a couple days then they would eat and repeat the process. Who knows maybe she will start again after some good lovin. Good luck if you decide to try it.

I would say definately. From what your telling us it sounds like she wants a man. Throw a male in there with her for about 48hrs or so and see if she doesn't come back on feed.
Hope this is is what you were looking for.

Tried ASFs? I've never heard of a BP turning down a little ASF meat.

I have 4 bps (3 adults) that will not eat ASF and are strictly mouse eaters....

I threw a spinner in with her. We'll see what happens. He hasn't been too motivated yet with other females though.

Hey Larry, I think the OTHER Larry had some success breeding a female Pied that was that size or maybe a little smaller. Maybe when the old guy wakes up from his nap he can shed some light on the subject.

I would see nothing wrong with it Larry...

We bred a 18-24mo. female at 1100g's, let her maternally incubate her clutch and all. She did just fine and gave us 4 eggs and 1 slug... All hatched out fine and she ate the very first offering of food... She's already back up to size (bigger than she was before)and was just taken off the eggs after they started hatching back in Sept.

Keep us updated with what happens!

I had three year old Het Pied that was just like yours, would only eat when she felt like it. To make things worse she was a mouse eater. Another breeder told me to start putting her with a Male to get her eating again. She was 975 grams when I started to introduce the Male. No copulations were observed the first time I put him in with her, but she started eating again big time. It was still only mice but she would eat three of them at every feeding. She started to put on weight. I observed many copulations and she just kept getting bigger. When she finally stopped eating she was 1204 grams. I noticed ovulation soon after she stopped eating and she laid five beautiful eggs for me. She is still not very big (1300 grams) but has laid a clutch of at least six eggs the last two years since. This year she gave me the two Female Pieds I posted about a few weeks ago.

Go for it.

As Albey and others have reported, pairing them with either get them to feed heavy, produce, or both!!!! I will be breeding ALL my girls who are 2 years and at least 1200 grams. I"ii put some base morphs on them as not to use up any powerhouse males.

Some girls are just not that big -- even when they eat. They are like the opposite of the big 6000-8000 gram sub Sahara balls!!!! Go for it!!!!:yessir:

Im going through this right now. I have a 06 het pied 0.1 that is a crappy eater. Shes 950g now. Her Het pied BF is a beast and full of sperm. Waiting for her to go.
As for the Butter. I say go for it. At 3 years old shes more mature than ever. Compared to the human world shes just a middle aged women thats short for her age.

I had an 04 girl last season. She was almost 1300g she stopped eating, she was showing signs. Bowl wrapping laying on the cool side. I figured since she stopped eating Id try her.

I put in my male pastel on 2/14/08 He locked with her 2 time the 14th and the 15th. I put him back with her on about the 2oth he didn't do anything. So I put my male het ghost in with her on 3/5/08. He locked on the 5th 12th and the 14th of March. He only locked with her three times.

6/5/08 she laid 4 perfect eggs. Before she laid her eggs she was 1510 g that was on 5/2/08 last time I weighed her before she laid. On 6/5/08 after she laid the eggs she weighed 1063g.

Anyways she was a picky feeder, but once I started pairing her up she started eating like crazy. Even now she is eating every week. She has to be one of, if not my best feeders. Now wish I could only get my pastel to like her again. The father ended up being the het ghost. I think since I didnt get any pastels from both the girls my pastel bred.
