Has any one used frost king heat cable, usually used to keep gutters and the edge of roofs from freezing in the winters, as a heat source? My father rigged his roof up and has 3 boxes at 100' left over and I would like to use it. 1 problem, it has a thermostat built into the end of the cable that opens and closes the circuit at 35 degrees. I was thinking I could simply cut it off and solder the leads back together to create a closed circuit and plug it into the thermostat.

Any thoughts?

I used to do this years ago before all the fancy stuff we have now. Gotta be carefull with it though. Some of them have a bad habit of catching fire. I am sure the ones now are much safer than the ones I used to use.
