I know there are others on here, but he has been doing it for a while so he can at least offer up his advice.

I like to not go over 95, but then down into the low 80's on the cool side.

If you can, just raise up the light or ceramic or whatever it is that you're using an inch or two, that drops the temp pretty good!

Jenea, Personally I don't feel 115 for the basking site is too high. I've got a female in a 55 gal. tank. Temps range from 115-20 basking site to 75-80 on the cool side. I DO use a Retes stack, so if the top is to warm she can relocate but she uses the full range of temps.

Can you put a dimmer on a CHE?

Good question, except I am using an MVB bulb...wonder if one would affect the uvb output?

I would check that out first, I know that the ones that we sell state in the usage pamphlet that comes in the box that you are not supposed to run them thru a dimmer. We well the exo-terra solar glo's as well as the zoo med ones.:dunno:

Yeah, it is a solar glo. They only had the 125. Wonder how much of a difference a 100 would make. I think I am going to have to break down and order on line again....I wasn't very happy with the sunforce because it only lasted about 6 weeks before it quit.

it's hard to tell you it's too hot or not....
where's your dragon at when it was at 115?
was it still under the light, or on other side of tank hiding in shade?

I run my temps from 105-115 on the warm side and 85 on the cooler side.

heat is a dragons friend and if it can regulate it own temps quickly, rather than basking at low temps for long periods... I find a better active dragon who has more time to worry about food/breeding/goofing off rather than maintaining enough heat to properly assure a healthy long term friendship

They were not under the lamp. Part of the problem is that my AC is on the fritz, and during the worst part of the day, my house is 85. It hit the really high temps when the house was hot.

Are you controlling your temps with a thermostat at all?

Can you with a light like that?

MIGHT behoove you to try some kind of heating "element" that can be controlled by a thermostat.

Im understanding now, in your case, if the room temps go up or down so will your hot spot.

Well, I am trying the all in one bulb so I do not have to buy a uvb and a heat bulb.

Put a portable AC unit in the room today and temps are back down to 78... hot spot still getting to hot, so I think a lower wattage bulb is what I am going to have to do.

Do beardeds require overhead heat, or would a UTH attached to a ceramic tile do?
