Curious as to what others do when they ship.

Do you watch that package like a hawk and jump right on it if you see a potential problem? At what point do you make contact with your buyer if there's an issue?

Should buyers be encouraged to contact the shipping company on their own, or do you prefer to handle the details and relay info to your customer?

When you ship, do you keep tabs on progress?

Yes.

100% yes. Have a tracking app on my phone that sends me updates every time it is updated in the system. I also get the customers email, so they get the tracking info sent to them from the company.

Absolutely not, the shipper will be able to get much more info and response with their tracking number and account number.

Thanks guys. Just tossing scenarios around in my head as far as how I should handle things and if so far I've been doing the right thing or just going completely overboard with paranoia.

I completely agree with Wild Bill.:yes: Having a buyer contact FedEx or UPS will cause nothing but problems... Even if something gets held up at a hub or delayed in transit there is little to nothing a buyer can do to remedy the situation.

The webpage tracking works out pretty nice but sometimes it doesn't get updated regularly. Some buyers get nervous about it and start calling trying to figure out what's going on with their package when everything is actually on-schedule.

FedEx has something on their site that does the same thing
