View Full Version : Het pied markers? eric 06-20-2010, 08:35 PM Can someone explain what exactly is a het. Pied marker.(Photo's would be a bonus) And how reliable is it? Thanks. jonf 06-20-2010, 09:44 PM Here is a pic of one of my proven het pied girls. I call it train tracks......but what you are looking for is the white stripe in between the black sides. I usually only look for this on the last 3/4 of the snake - the whole belly does not have to be like this for it to be considered a "marker". As far as reliability goes, if you are talking about random normal BP's with this marker, then it's slim.........but you could get lucky (remember, normal snakes can have similar markings). If you are talking about actual het pieds and poss het pieds, I'd be willing to place money on the ones that I produce as being 100% hets. Something also to remember is that not all 100% hets have these markers. So it's not full proof but it's definitely a good sign if you are dealing with poss hets. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg172/jonf_01/DSC_1076Medium.jpg norsmis 06-20-2010, 09:47 PM Thanks for the pic bro! Larry 06-22-2010, 08:15 PM I've got het pieds with the markers and some without but there is no denying the connection between het pieds and the race track markers like Jons says.. phunkyone808 06-22-2010, 08:54 PM I've got het pieds with the markers and some without but there is no denying the connection between het pieds and the race track markers like Jons says.. I hope they all prove out for me even the ones without the markers and the ones with that aren't het... A lot of breeders sell hets to the pet store as normals... In fact I was listening to RR last nite and the episode was the 8 ball python one where he hit the albino pin from a normal female but reall really was a het albino..... Just a for fun project for me... Put some pics up boss! phunkyone808 06-22-2010, 08:57 PM I would like to see more belly pics of fires... Since I have none to compare to.... My pastel female is the only one with a belly like that I got her off of CL Art In Scales 06-26-2010, 07:10 PM Like Jon said, the "train tracks" are key but not always. We went though our entire collection last summer and picked out 10 normals that had the "train tracks", plus we had 2 girls that we purchased as 100% het pieds. We've had 5 clutches hatch so far and not one pied, even from the 100% het pieds. All were bred to a pied male. We still have 3 more clutches to go, so maybe we will hit on one of them. I've been looking at the babies from these clutches and about 90% have the "train tracks" and I know all of them are definite het pieds because of the male. So not all show the markers even if they are het. |
