Trivial, but cool!

Message in bottle found after nearly 4 decades
The bottle was tossed in New Jersey and has turned up in North Carolina

NORTH HALEDON, N.J. - A message in a bottle tossed into the ocean off Barnegat Bay has turned up in North Carolina — 39 years later. The note was sealed in a Schaefer beer bottle. It was dated Aug. 17, 1969 and read: "If found notify the North Haledon Fire Co. 2."

Mark Ciarmello and his 3-year-old daughter found the bottle along a beach in Corolla, N.C., in October. That's about 400 miles from where it was released.

The Downingtown, Pa., resident said he got on his cell phone, called North Haledon and e-mailed photos of the bottle to the firefighters.

No one is sure who tossed the bottle. But firefighters suspect it was during one of the many fishing trips that they used to take years ago.

That is pretty damn cool! Makes you wonder where the bottle has been for all this time? Corolla is a cool little area......

that is pretty funky, you'd think it'd travel more than 10 miles /year !

Freakin beer bottle has likely seen more of the world than any 10 of us put together. Wicked neat story tho.

i would have never guessed a bottle could last 39 years in salt water to begin with, much less stay in tact with the note still readable lol.

That is a neat story -- it's too bad that there wasn't a more interesting ending than a bunch of drunk firemen littering the seas :nono:

LOL Matt is a fireman (volunteer since he was 14, hes 33 now), and although he's not a drunk, it sounds like something they would think up. "Hey, I'm bored, the fish aren't biting....I know what we should do...."
Cool story. The guys who tossed it in should have signed it though.

Yeah, the two that found the bottle 4 decades later, should of wrote down a note... added it to the bottle and thrown it back!

That's a cool story. Wonder if the firemen will ever figure out who did it.

Read this before work and found it cool to have it found after 40 years
