Congrats Greg! Can't wait to see that super-conda toffee someday :DThanks. Give me at least a year and half and we'll maybe have one. I'm very excited about this project. I think the super toffee will be spectacular.
Awesome shots! Congrats! Are hoggie eggs always transparent like that? Thanks. This is my first time hatching hognose eggs but I've seen others post transparent egg pictures also.
They went transparent just hours before the hognose pipped. It was very cool. Once they pipped the whole egg would go transparent.
FloridaHogs 06-27-2010, 06:27 AM Very neat pic!Q
The eggs looks pretty wet, the transparency is most likely from the fluid once the egg pipped. Very seldom do my western eggs go transparent, but I incubate a little on the dry side.
norsmis 06-27-2010, 07:34 AM Awesome pics! the see through egg is awesome! Wish there was a formula for that! :lmao:
Love the pics especially that second one. Look forward to seeing them out of the eggs.
guyergenetics 06-28-2010, 09:22 AM Now that is awesome! Gotta love the baby Hoggies.

The eggs went transparent hours before each egg hatched. After talking with a few other breeders I think it's a Toffeebelly trait.
Most people that have hatched Toffees have noticed the transparency to some degree.
All eight of my eggs went completely transparent before piping. It was the craziest thing in the world to see. You could see the hognose inside of the egg moving around.
I have a few experiments planned to see if it's something that happens to eggs from females with the toffee gene or if it's something that happens to eggs that have babies that carry the toffee gene. It's nothing scientific but fun to mess around with.
I have 8 more eggs in the incubator from my toffee female. If they do the same and non of my other non toffee eggs do it I'm going to start thinking it's a toffee gene thing for sure.
Hognose just keep getting more and more fun to keep. I just love the little worms.

Cool pics -Thanks.
Love the pics especially that second one. Look forward to seeing them out of the eggs.I'll post some right side up pictures soon. I have some playing dead pictures posted. Check the post "I think I killed my hognose".
Now that is awesome! Gotta love the baby Hoggies.Hogs are the best reptiles. I just can't get enough of them. They just have so much attitude and personality.
BerlinHogs 06-30-2010, 02:36 AM Hi Gregg
Great pics!
we noticed that this is hapend when the humidity level is high in the air. Raimo did notice the same effect one day after candelling in the middle of incubation time.
So we did lower the humidity and now...they do get transparent wile hatching only

So we did lower the humidity and now...they do get transparent wile hatching onlyInteresting. I used a dry vermiculite mixture. Around 3/4 to 1 by weight of water and vermiculite.
I did do a lot of candling for the first half of the incubation. I was an excited expecting dad and it was hard to leave the eggs alone. :o
BerlinHogs 06-30-2010, 02:59 AM last year we used 1/3 of water by weight and had a lot of condensation on the botom of the tub and a lot of transparent eggs.
this year we lower the water to 1/4 with only a few litlle water drops in the corners of the bottom from the tub.
This time we had only transparent eggs wile hatching. especialy when the fluid from inside flow over the surface of the egg.
As soon as we removed the eggs with the hatchling in separate tubs, the eggs turn white.
This is the reason why I think itīs a humidity "problem"

(the same clutch/tub like the pic before)
breeding was het x homozygot Toffe...so all of them have the Toffee Belly gene in them
