Hey Guy,
I'm thinking about getting some dart frogs as i have some extra exo-terra tanks sitting around the house empty!
Any pointers and pictures of set ups on these guys would be awesome!
I'm thinking about getting a pair or two of the Broze & Blue ones!

Do a lot of research before you get them... I have had some in the past and they were cool but just i bored with them and the fruit flies. I don't think too many people on here keep them so i would visit dendroboard.

Thanks for the heads up papaK! :) I'll visit that board and see what's up, but if anyone does keep them on here, feel free to speak up! :)

Used to keep them and breed them.
May get some more in the future since black jungle is a drive away.
Check out there site.

With the Auratus i wouldnt worry to much about the fruitflies. You can always alternate between them and crickets.
Fruitflies can be a pain to culture etc.though.
But like i said i have a steady supply when i need them so i never really had to deal with it much.

A word about Dendroboard... There are some predominant mind sets there that if you have the audacity to even question a raft of shit will descend on you like a ton of lead. I quit going there because of this.
If you fear fruit flies look into springtails, woodlice and bean beetles. All easy to propagate and not nearly as labor intensive as fruit flies.
I used to keep D. azureaus. Very personable and cool but they do take more work and attention.

Cherri, Do it there tuff critters. FF are easier than crix. Josh's media rocks. He has frog and might ship up north. I meet some good ppl on DB but, nowhere like the BL. Wish you were closer I'd hook you up.

What size exos do you have? Auratus are more terrestrial and would appreciate a lot of floor space, but you most certainly can keep one in a smaller exo.
Thumbnails are more arboreal, and would appreciate the height.
FFs are super easy. So easy that it's too easy to get too many! Get a betta fish as well. They will eat your extra ffs. Just make a culture each week-10 days, and you should be fine. I find the excelsior works MUCH better than does the coffee filter.
The ecosystem does a great job of maintaining itself, IMO. Just periodic additions of springtails are needed, as the frogs will eat them.
I like the LECA (light expanded clay aggregate) balls for a drainage layer, with a layer of fiberglass screen over that, then the planting substrate. I'm experimenting with packing peanuts instead of LECA, and that is working out well.
Look online for the recipe for ABG mix for the planting substrate. I like to purchase my mix from repotme.com. they are a little pricey, but you can custom blend your substrate. I augment the basic ABG mix with rice hulls, for extra aeration. Avoid mixes with perlite in them. People have reported impaction problems with that.
Get your tank up and running for at least a week but more preferably a month or two before introducing frogs. Seed it well with springtails and feed them for a while. The tank will begin to cycle. Early phases, it will smell like musty basement. Then once the beneficial bacteria are established, it will smell like a rich forest.
Plants increase the usable area of the tank, and digest frog waste. Jewel orchids and bromeliads are two of the most popular plants, but a variety of other orchids and ferns, selanginella, and other plants will work well too. Fake plants are always an option, if you don't want to use real, but they are not ideal. They will need to be removed and cleaned.
Misting systems and foggers are nice, but not necessary. A simple daily misting with a spray bottle works just fine.
If you wind up with too much water in the drainage layer, you can always use a turkey baster to suck it up, if you haven't drilled a bulkhead. I prefer not to have the bulkhead, much more chance of error there, and the baster works fine. Also, you'll learn how much water is needed in the tank, and will probably only have to suck out excess water 1-2 times a year.
Wish I had the export paperwork, I have 10 green and black auratus available!
Dendroboard is a great resource, as is dartden and dartfrogz.com. I'm sure there are froggers in your area you can get help from and purchase your frogs.
Hope I've been of some help. I really like the frogs, and they are so nice and low maintenance. Hey, any animal that doesn't require cage cleaning is an AWESOME pet in my book!

Agreed, do your reasearch. A lot! lol. I love love love my trio though! They're sitting out in the living room and are always a favortie of people visiting my house. They do get hella-annoying with the fruit flies and such. But they're too pretty to be mad at! :D

I will take Fruit Flies over crickets any day. I enjoy watching them climb around and fall.:lmao::lmao: Seriously the one thing I noticed is don't become discouraged if you get froglets. They are very shy at first and you hardly see them, but after a few months they don't hide much and are out everywhere. I like them and think they are very easy and cheap to keep in comparison.
