Hi everyone, I bought 1.1 bloods back in march. The male ate for me right away but not the female. I have tried everything and eveery size but she still will not take food. Please some one help. I know I can force feed her but I want that to be the last resort. If you have any help please let me know.

Thanks

Derek

Derek, have you asked the person that you got it from what it was eating? I know some people like to feed guinea pigs so that's what they are familiar with.. Just a thought. Other then that it may be trying to scent with something else, etc... How big is it?

She is about as thick as my thumb and maybe 6 to eight inches long. She drinks the water and goes to the bathroom but won't eat. They said she was eating fresh killed rat pups. I can't see that she is way to small. My male is like 10 times her size. I have not tried a gineapig yet. Were would I get one of those. I don't know any body who breeds them here. Thanks for the in put Sara.

got to cover all the basis...what size container is she in, does she have a hide, temp and all that....bloods are not the mean feisty things people think they are most of the time....

The more info you can give us the better....at that size they weren't feeding her pigs if anything they might have been scenting....

Yup, what Jeff said, at that size not even newborn pigs yet.. Is the female set up exactly like the male that is eating? Do you have bedding deep enough that she can totally submerge herself in by burrowing? As well as hides on the cool and warm side? Etc. etc..

I was told that they like confined spaces. She is in the same size container the male is in and does have a hide. The temps are all good I keep the abient temp at 82 with a hot side of 86. The male is almost 2 big I think but I was told to keep them in as small container as possible. It is not to small. The size is like a shoe box maybe alittle bit bigger. The male has one hell of a feeding responce. Once you get him out he is like a little puppy. She is gentle too. I tried live and fresh killed and frozen thawed. I have over 23 snakes and have never had a problem like this before. I know that it is comin, but I can't stand when a snake doesn't eat. It bugs me to they do I truly care for my reptiles and want to see them healthy and strong. What size would you recomend. The one she is in now i feel that it is to small. I would like to keep them in a rubbermaid 2221 I think thats the right number. I keep my baby boas and balls in that one. If you need any more info let me know I will answer to the best of my ablity. Thanks for your help.

I would say at that size small to medium mouse or fuzzy rat (the eyes almost open)....have you tried mice even though they told you rats?

The temps seem okay and the container size is right smaller the better for starting bloods...

What kind of bedding do you use and do you know what the breeder was using? Have you been in touch with the breeder at all? Sometimes they might remember a little quirk that got the snake eating...

My guess is if she was eating at all ever then it probably wasn't rats or maybe just one rat before she got sold so the stress has her reverting to her old ways....

just throw in a live rat pup or needed size at night BUT 2 day before your gonna feed DON'T touch her, not even to check on her.

also throw in some moss too as another hide

I HAD one super picky eater and sphagnum moss worked perfect and now she's a regular:rebel:
