View Full Version : Retic Introduction
luciddream 12-04-2008, 11:22 PM I decided to introduce a pair that I had hoped would go this year, but wasn't quite sure. She was all about it. Did a bunch of tail wagging, and what I can only describe as courtship, but he, didn't seem very interested. He kept seeming like he was going to get into position, but then she would touch him in some way that would spook him and he'd flinch and move away. I'm hoping he gets more receptive soon. So, here are some pics:

She's a tiger from a calico breeding produced by NERD. He's an albino tiger from Bob Clark. He's an 07, she's an early 06. I wasn't sure about her. I had hoped she would be mature enough and whatnot. She's about 12 ft now, and has the weight, so I figured I'd see what happens. Turns out it's him that isn't ready. Oh, byw, that's his cage. Her's is a little bigger, but she recently outgrew it, so I'm building her a new one.

Keep trying and hopefully he'll come around and decide he wants to make some babies. Beautiful retics.
luciddream 12-05-2008, 10:22 AM Thanks guys. I'm sure he will come around. Even if it means I have to trick him into it, he will make me some babies this year, damnit.
Travis Kubes 12-05-2008, 06:17 PM Actually you probably dont want to hear this but the "tail wagging" means that she doesnt want to breed and wants him out of there. When the female does this that is not a good sign for breeding purposes.
earthpig23 12-05-2008, 06:45 PM i love tics..really do and hope they do eventually go for you taht sems like great pairing to me.
FloridaHogs 12-05-2008, 06:48 PM Well, she is a big girl, I can see why he would be a bit intimidated! Goodluck with the pairing, should make some beautiful babies.
grunt_11b2007 12-05-2008, 08:23 PM Good luck with these two! Hopefully he'll stop being gunshy for you and git'r'done.

She wasn't doing any of the aggressive wagging that I've seen before, just kind of keeping her tail in a position that he could get at, and she was rubbing it all over the walls of his cage. It seemed that she was putting her scent all over his cage, which I had never seen in a retic before.
Anywho, it was a trial introduction. I was really more interested in seeing how they would react with each other. I really didn't expect either to go till next year. I may try again at some point this season, but maybe not. I have others that are breeding this season, I was just excited about those two.
jknudson 12-05-2008, 10:30 PM Best of luck, hope you get something out of it!
Travis Kubes 12-05-2008, 10:37 PM Yeah I hear ya. Just because she is expressing now doesnt mean she wont still go later this year although it will be unlikely. She is just not in the mood yet. Any time they do that with their tails means they are not going to give it up. LOL Thats probably why the male is not acting interested.

Good to know. I've never seen it in any of the others. They've always been good to go. I never tried a female under 3 before, though.
Larry 12-06-2008, 07:26 AM About tail wagging I've heard it both ways so I couldn't tell you. I know when the female is lifting her tail exposing her cloaca thats definitely a good sign.
Listening to retic breeders talk I'd be very surprised if she goes this year being an 06' animal. From what I've heard retics really need the added age over weight. Good luck to you though and I'd be very ineterested to see if she does in fact produce at that age.
When is the last time she shed? Sometimes a fresh shed female will get a boy started. Good luck with them.

Yeah, she was exposing her cloaca, and rubbing it on the walls of his cage. Like I said, she is an early 06, so she'd be 3 before the season is over. I wasn't counting on her breeding this year, but figured I'd see what happens.
Quig, she shed a couple weeks ago. I went ahead with the intro because her cage needed cleaned, and while my wife was cleaning the cage, I got tired of holding her cause she's so heavy. So I figured, what the hell, I'll see how they react.
