I wasn't sure whether to post this, but I found a few recent deals that I felt I had to share with my fellow bush-league breeders (FYI, I have no stake in either company).

Cheap Digital Thermometers
If you're looking for a digital thermometer and you live near a Menards hardware store (http://www.menards.com/), I found some cheap, China-made thermometers there for...get this...$2.00 each (photo below)! They have a 6 ft. probe, inside/outside temps, humidity level (inside only), date and time, and you can set them for high and low temp alarms (although the alarm isn't that loud, or long). Look for them in the aisle that has the outdoor thermometers. I found them on the bottom shelf in a cheap-looking purplish box. Before you buy, open the box and make sure that the LCD isn't cracked, but it may have a plastic cover on it that makes it looked cracked...this pulls off easily. I have a feeling that this is a special purchase item, so get them while you can. I bought 14 for myself...for the future growth of my collection, and tried one out and it seems to work perfectly!

Inexpensive Non-Contact Handheld Infrared Thermometer
Sure, you can buy one at elsewhere, but can you get one for $24.99 + S/H (on sale now)? I did not buy this brand myself (my own cost $50 on Amazon.com...damn it), but it has a distance to spot size of 6:1, backlit LCD, laser pointer, and measures -4° to 608°F with a ±3°F accuracy. But I've bought from the company selling them for many years (Geeks.com) and have been very happy with their customer service. Here's the link to the item, (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=IR-THERMOMTR&cat=CON) and few photos below.

I hope these found deals will help other herpers!
Merry Christmas!!!

Great finds! My wife just bought me a new temp gun for my birthday and I would bet money I got the same one you did off Amazon (she loves that place). I wish I had known about that one from Geeks.com as I have bought a lot of stuff through them also (seeing as how I am geek in redneck sort of way).

Here's the one I bought (http://www.amazon.com/KINTREX-IRT0421-Non-Contact-Infrared-Thermometer/dp/B0017L9Q9C/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1228515256&sr=8-1)...and I just noticed it went up in price from what I paid just ($48.95) last August. Is it the same? I love mine...love the 12:1 distance ratio, laser-pointer, gun-shape, and it's just as accurate as any Temp-Gun (sorry ProExotics...I researched it thoroughly).

Sounds about right!!!

I'm sure if we had them at that age, we would've done the same thing.

I actually got mine originally because I was working on a thermal dynamics study for the company I worked for at the time :p.
