Just wanted to see how many of you out there have the support of you better half with your reptile obsession? I started out with a couple corn snakes when I started dating my fiancee. That's all we had for the first 6 years. About a year and a half ago I decided I wanted to expand the collection and try my hand at becoming a breeder part time. The collection is now around 60 snakes and over 1000 rodents at any given time. To my suprise the girl has totally taken to the snakes and rodents. She told me to stop buying about 6 months ago but there is always the just one more scenario or it a great deal. I've used the just one more so I can make a ????? and she has been very patient with it. Once they arrive she's glad I bought them. I feel very lucky to have a girl that is very supportive and is activley involved now. With her support I hope to become a full time breeder.

How bout the rest of ya out there? Do you get support in your hobby/passion or just greif for spending money?

I support Jeff's love of reptiles. And I am really starting to like the boas more and more. I help out as much as I can with the geckos and the rats/mice. I prefer not to help with the feeding of snakes since he keeps all the information on his computer and I don't want to feed anything too big or too small a meal.

My better half started off when I got married no SNAKES. It was one show holding one BP to change that to ONLY one BP. Then that grew to a few BP's are ok and more shows till she held a Boa and then well maybe one Boa and now I have 3 with agreement to get more as well. The whole no snake rule means nothing now (lol) and I have 100% support on getting them as long I keep the bills paid in doing so. Getting the ones she wants along the way is basically the new rule which is so much better then the "no snake rule" :wamma:

I'm not married but my chick is fine with it. She goes to all the shows with me, talks snakes (or listens while talk snakes) and is very supportive of anything I do in the reptile community. But still I wish she was a "herper" you cant beat a girl who gets just as excited as you over herps.

My wife...... tolerates it. She does like some of the corns but she wont touch the pits. She has seen me get nailed too many times by those little buggers!!! She did buy me a breeding adult pair of womas last year for my birthday and will go to shows with me and help sell them. She doesnt help with the upkeep though. She was completely against them when we first met but I made it clear my reptiles arent going anywhere and she accepted that.

Got over that when our reptile vet was looking over one of our bitey babies and said 'come on let it bite ya...it doesn't hurt' then called all his assistants to stand in line while the baby nipped them.

My fiancee tolerates it, mainly because she knows how much I love them. I've owned at least 2-3 snakes since we started dating 6 yrs ago and recently when I got sucked into the ball pythons and now have 14 snakes she does get a little nervous that I'll get out of hand like I usually do. Basically she "gave" me my own room and as long as I don't expand from there she's fine.

Its the opposite with me. My girl wants every Bp morph there is and im the one that gets nervous on how much were keeping. I have to fight with her telling her to relax.

Oh and on top of that. She doesnt believe in selling any of the boys that breed for us. She wants to keep every reptile we feed and care for.:)

My hubby supports me financially and emotionally with my hobby, but I do ALL the work! I do all the feeding, cleaning, and cuddling. He is my business guy, he handles the money side while I get to play :D Keeps me from getting in over my head, with the freedom to have fun and not worry because someone else is worring for me...if that makes sense. Heck, he got me this guy for my Birthday last year. I told him I found "the one", so he got it for me. He still won't touch the snakes though, just looks at them and talks to them :D

Hubby tolerates the snakes -- occasionally if he happens to be in the snake room he'll pull out a snake or a lizard and hold it for a while -- he tries to be interested but it's just not really his thing -- for the most part he thinks we are all freakin crazy. I think he'd appreciate it more if I made some better money off the endeavor.

My wife is into it almost as bad as me. Matter of fact the last four snakes have been for her. She has her hands full with two of them, Vietnamese Blue Beauties. Those things are all about the biting right now. She has been wanting a RTB so I picked one up for her from a friend of mine the other night on the way home. That's her newest buddy. Ok I like him too and he is Het for Albino. We are already looking for a girl friend for him. We work pretty good together, she cleans all the dragon and gecko cages and takes care of the rodents. I clean all the snakes and build all the racks and cages. I think I have the best part of that one. NIce to share this obsession with someone else for sure.

My girlfriend is very supportive of anything I do. She is not a reptile person by any means. And she is afraid of snakes thus I dont have any snakes. Working on that.

In all honesty she would prefer the reptiles not be here. I mean if I were to say Im getting rid of all of them tomorrow it wouldnt break her heart. They occupy two rooms on the second floor of my house, their gear takes up most of a third, I have an extra freezer which holds rodents, etc. She would much rather have that space back to utilize for human things. Like a den or TV room. Or a guest room perhaps decorated nicely. She likes things pretty, neat and clean. I have monitors which involves lugging around bags of dirt. She no likie dirt on the floor. Uh uh.

She kinda likes the leopard geckos and she helped me pick out a pair. That helps when you get your significant other involved in the madness. She does not hold them and I do all the work. But she will assist me to some degree. She will fill my water bottle or sweep up after Im done. She'll get extra veggies or whatever I may need when she goes food shopping.

She DETESTS the insects especially the roaches. Hates them with a passion. And she abhors the croc monitor cuz he once looked at her two year old son like he was lunch. She would REALLY like to see the croc go above all else. If I get rid of the croc it would be much easier to convince her we should have snakes.

Despite that, she is still supportive. She doesnt argue with me about money. She gives me the time I need to take care of them without complaining. She even knows who Frank Retes is. Shes a great girl doing her very, very best but this just isnt her thing. It would be the same for me if she was really into say the ballet. Id go to support her and show Im a part of her life but Id be counting the seconds until it was over .

I may get her to sign up at the BLBC though. And I need to take her to a show. Even a non reptile person is usually blown away the first time they attend a decent reptile show. Its better than a zoo.

I had a couple boas when we met (17 yrs old) and when we got married the next year she said "no snakes"! I was cool for three years and then told her I was getting "one" well that turned to two then to the few hundred we have now! She use to count boxes to make sure I did not get anything new but then she figured out that the racks I built had boxes behind them. :) She has gotten better with them and she loves going to all the shows and now she tells me which ones she wants! Next on the list is Clowns! She is into the lizards and seems like severy show we come home with something new! I am married, mom of three, and hubby lets me indulge whatever makes me happy as long as the bills are paid first and he gets his play money as well. He tolerates the snakes, but I do all the purchasing, cleaning, feeding, etc. He, however, does not want a rodont colony in the house.... well this house for now. We eventually plan on moving and I will have a dedicated snake room where I can than have a small rodont colony. Works for me. I went from one corn snake, which I had for 7 years to obtaining 1 more corn snake and 9 bp's in one years time span. :D

My girlfriend goes through her phases with the snakes. She doesn't like that I spend so much money on them but she really enjoys the different morphs and she loves the ball pythons :D. I got her a ghost corn at the last show because she's been beggin for one for a while but she won't really hold it because it's still small and in that super psycho squirmy phase they all go through lol.

It's funny sometimes because I keep trying to get her to learn their names and the names of their morphs so I'll pull out one of the BPs and go "ok, now who's this and what type are they????" She hardly ever gets it but she's learning lol. She likes playing with the rats a lot too and I have to stop her from naming all the babies that are going to be fed.

While I had always been interested in snakes and wanted one through most of highschool, my girlfriend is actually the one that convinced me to buy our first snake. A few years, lots of reading, and a large chunk of money later, we're both addicted and have a decent collection going.
