Went through to water the plants I have in some of my crested enclosures. I keep the plant in a small, clear plant sauser to catch excessive water.
To my surprise, I found SIX eggs behind one of the plants (before I watered)! Two were ok, two were slightly dented, 2 were dented quite a bit.
I think the 4 eggs should be ok but not the last two.

Here is my thought on why they chose the plant rather than the moist hide-
The plant was way in the back of the enclosure, the hide right up front by the front glass. The sauser had just a tiny bit of overflow dirt- just enough to lay the eggs in. I think the geckos felt more comfortable hiding the eggs away from all the traffic passing in front of the enclosure.

Lesson learned, if you have an area that your crested might feel more secluded hiding their eggs at, please check the area.

LOL!! I never even bother putting lay boxes in mine, they've never (not a single girl out of any colony) bothered to use it. But, they lay like crazy in the soil the plants are in, so I just dig thru that every so often.

Sara have you thought about doing lay boxes with just soil? Do you have tops on your lay boxes- with holes of course for them to climb into the box through.

Several years ago I bothered with different lay boxes and substrates. now i don't bother and they do fine..
