Took some pics today while cleaning. The lighting was decent, so I got the old Nikon out and took a few pics of my favorite babies from the 2008 season. The Ultra-Breit baby FINALLY had it's first shed early this week (born back in June).
The first pic: Possible Visual Het, Probable Visual Het and an Ultra-Breit

Thanks, All! Norsmis: The 'Ultra' trait has been around for just over a decade now. It's been pretty 'down low' for a long time. One thing that is pretty much universal with the people producing them is the fact that no one really knows the bottom line on the trait. No one is sure what type of trait it is since it does not seem to follow anything the snake community is used to seeing. There's a bit of speculation overall. My opinion is the trait my be related to a 'codon' type condition. A friend of mine who is a biologist tried to sum it up simply as this: If the 'conditions' are favorable, the trait may 'insert' itself and we see 'visual' hets. The gene may also insert twice and thus produce the 'Ultra' form in the first generation as was the case with this particular Ultra. I bred my best Ultra male to a 'normal' female 100% unrelated to my collection (CH import bought at a pet store in Texas) and we produced the trait this season from that breeding. Pretty crazy really... what we do know is it's indeed genetic. But, the exact nature of it's method to pass on is still a head scratcher. I hope to have a few more breedings this season to maybe shed a little more light on it. A few folks have been producing them for years (this will be my 4th year coming up) and still cannot pinpoint the exact nature of it. There are potentially 4 distinct bloodlines being worked with at this time. I believe they are all the exact same trait and just vary a bit due to founding animals (kinda like the vatiety seen in Pastels Ball Pythons. In the end, they are all still Pastels, just different grades). One thing is for sure... it makes hatching eggs REALLY interesting! Trust me, I almost flipped my lid when I saw an Ultra in this clutch! Good times... :)

p.s. - These were all in ONE clutch from 2006. Variety pack!

Many thanks, Evan! I'll be gittin' me some Ivory someday soon... I hope! :) They are truly awesome. I still think the T- Albino Blood SLAYS everything (ANY snake morph out there)... they are just unreal in person. They look completely 'fake' to me because their color is so intense. Reminds me of an albino Sinaloan actually: Just add 30+ pounds! :) Someday soon on them too!
