Ok almost got the GF convinced. Gonna take her out to dinner that was Tosha's suggestion. Some foot rubbin' that came from Bry. And some things I cant post which came from CK. Dude, how do I even get the trampoline into the house? Nevermind...

I had a little chitty chat with BT (*deep voice* The Rebel from the South) and he's getting a spider and pastel together for me next season.

I really like bees they are pretty much my favorite. I know there is plenty of wild stuff out there but I figure Ill start small.

I was thinking of getting a male spider, a female pastel and a female enchi. Shoot for a stinger bee (if thats what its called) with the enchi.

Now, should I get 2 males and have 2.2 just in case one male is not in the mood so to speak? Good idea? Then I can run both males through the females and hopefully something should take.

Opinions appreciated.

Since the objective is the add snakes to the house I say go with the 2.2

Awesome, best of luck on the con job with the GF.... I like having 2 males, in case one don't wanna do crapola, but also because if you have a handful of females lined up for one male you can get those projects running twice as quick.

I also adopt the paranoid approach of what if something happened to one of the males, like it got out and never found it.... so I like the 2 males idea for the females.

Good luck man!

You'll get a few and soon you be getting more in one way or another....

Im trying to keep this contained if I can. Im already out of hand with varanids.

But you can keep balls in racks. Hmmm..thats gonna be a problem Racks dont take up much room.

I can see where this is going and it dont look good.

Yeah I think that sounds pretty good. I dont want to have just a pair too boring. And if I miss a step which is likely this is my first time attempting to breed balls I got a better chance of something happening with more troops.

And after all 4 balls dont take up much more space than 2. Just a higher rack :)

Thank you for the input Jaz. You have some of the hottest BPs out there that I have seen. Your mojaves are just nuts.

But since my goal is bees you dont think it would be a good idea to have the two spiders? Do you think a spider male, a pastel male, a spider female and a pastel female would be better? Or just spider/pastel male and pastel/enchi female?

as kooky as this may sound, if i'm you, (and i was you just a few short years ago) i'd get a spider, female.
you'll need some time to raise it up before worryin' about any males.
then, next year, get a super pastel male, which should be pretty reasonable by then, and will double your chances of making your coveted bee, but unlike a pastel male, will always be beautiful.
i realize you want to make your own bee.
truthfully, in your situation you could just get a nice bee now.
saw some real beauties for very good prices at the last whiteplains show.
but since you want to grow your own funk...
seriously consider the fact that you could raise up a female spider, without distraction, for a whole year before having to worry about her mate. she'll be a beast !
most spiders mosh rats like they're on death row...
just an idea bro, 'cause i care,

Well In not planning on anything large scale. But point taken. What do you think would be a decent ratio? 1 male to every 3 females? Or even more females than that?

I like CK's plan alot for your end result.

Pick up a dozen or so females this year and then get the males next season...:yessir:

I think that's a good start, but I'm one to talk - six or seven clutches planned this season and only one male has three females, the other males have one female each. I'm only limited by the available real estate in my apartment - once we get a house, watch out!

More females and the idea to get females this year and worry about males next year is a very good one.
I'd never want to depend on one male snake, since he could end up gay like my cinny male Tony.
I'm excited for ya!!

i agree with a few of the previous posts........stock up on females and worry about males later. You'll find that these bush-league people breed the males real young.............they got little embryos that aren't even out of the egg that are locking up with females! ha-ha.....:)

If anybody could do it - It'd be Jashole...

Seriously - Grab your females this year and get a good year under their belt...If your after Bees - I'd do like CK said and go with a Super Pastel...That way you'd have a good shot at several Bees in one clutch...Or grab you a Lemon Blast male - That would be fun...You'd have a chance not only at Bees but more Lemon Blast - Spinners - Spinner Blast - Spiders - Pins - Pastels...Fun stuff...If your gonna do a rack - Might as well do a ten slot...:yessir:

Yeah man, what everyone else said. Females first that way you'll be getting them up to size while you stealthily sneak males in through the back door. I mean if your girl really doesn't like snakes she's not gonna be checking on the rack very often right???

Good luck gettin her convinced man!

That is the plan.

Step 1: Get oversized rack. When asked why is the rack so big for so few snakes say the extra tubs will be for "babies"

Step 2: Get snakes. Buy flowers. Foot rubs. Do a lot of vacuuming they love that.

Step 3: Aquire more snakes. Pretend like they were always there. Play stupid. Not a problem very good at that.

bro
the best balls you need to get right now are the ones that live between the pages of kevin mccurley's or dave and tracey barker's books.
read one of those, or both.
GUARANTEE you won't be able to only read it (or them) only once !
show your ol' lady the goodness that is ball.(if you feel you need approval)
then we can all (well, not all of us) convene to look at the live beauties on jan 25 at whiteplains, except the difference will be that by then you'll be armed with an arsenal of knowledge, and you'll have a bunch 'a BLBC mates available to help you through the beginning of the end...
by then, you'll have been irreversibly smitten.
preparation bro. preparation is huge !
with good preparation, you'll be able to have your balls and eat them too !

Very important phrase to remember: "what new snake?" http://jetpythons.com/angel.gif

IMO -- Depending on your budget - pick up some pastel girls, the enchi and a bee this year since that is what you want to work with - lotsa good stuff you can do with those animals without getting too big.

Yeah buddy! Sounds like a pretty good plan to me! Step 3 works like a charm with my girl since she can never remember which snake is which anyways :wamma: But I've got her now to where she's the one encouraging me to get new snakes (of course after lots and lots of step #2) it's a beautiful thing.

Oh man.. Good luck V. I know it isn't the plan, but you will more than likely end up with a couple hundred of the little buggers sooner or later. More likely sooner. I was supposed to go buy a couple racks today, but I bought a bunch of snakes instead. Good luck with the balls.

Best of luck on the BP's and I know for a fact it won't be just a pair or 2.2 as these are very addicting. You start with wanting one combo and soon it's another and another and soon you need more racks and then more balls. Just get the ones you like is the best plan I think =)

Hey V,
i got a smokin' pastel yellowbelly if you get a spider FEMALE and raise it up maybe we could do a breederloan. With that you can get yellowbelly bees. I don't know if you've seen them before, but those are even better than bees and if not you will at least maybe get a bee.

V... I guess depending on what you're looking at spending.

I'd say since you love bees, and they're becoming more affordable. Go for a bee male, couple older pastel and spider girls to get a jump start. You'll have a better shot at making more bees, and of course super pastels, and killerbees! And with the other male, I'll have to go along with the lesser, I just love lesser bees, and if you add in pastel, you got a queen!
