the 5 post minimum pic rule is kind of lame, suppose it keeps out the trolls and snake oil salesmen though....still, it prevented me from making a nice first thread
I've been herping since I was a little kid in the early 70's, got completely out of it in late '99 when I got married to my now ex-wife....back at it again with a Juvenile Biak GTP, nippy little thing. I've had it for a month, it was 25" to start and is about 31" now, one shed that was the perfect example of how it should be.
Great to be back in the hobby/passion, I have some Panther Chameleons and plan on getting some Retics soon as well.
I used to breed geckos and had a Argentinian Tegu trio before my marriage. I also had a particularly challenging 13' African Rock Python with quite a formidable bite.
Hello all...
Pretty easy to work up to 5 posts! Looking forward to seeing your little biak, hope it's calmer then ours!
-edgecrusher- 07-25-2010, 01:07 PM thanks Sara, I've been bit at least 8 times so far.:)

I use the little hook on our little one, and if it manages to shoot that I get Bruce, lol!!! But, it's one that when I offer food from the hemo's it will jerk over, check the mouse, sit still for a second, then shoot over the mouse just to try to tag my hand. It's a stinker for sure!:lmao::cheers:
-edgecrusher- 07-25-2010, 01:26 PM well when I feed I use long tweezers at this point, only time I've used a hook is for wild caught, venomous or big biters, i'm a little reluctant with the GTP's using a hook, they're kinda fragile. I can get my hand under it's perch and it will usually investigate my hand, once i get it to move off it's perch it will usually head straight for the enclosures door and I will transfer to my left hand and the strike is usually at this point. I used to have a 13' African Rock Python, she was nasty, at one point I had her relatively tame, but a few weeks passed and she went back to what she knew best; Biting her keeper. I allowed her to roam the room and went to pick her up one day and she struck at me and 13 of her teeth went under my first three fingernails, about four broke off and it was extremely painful and I bled a lot to say the least.
Never had a problem using the little hook with the gtp's. I don't use it except for the "this is not feeding time" tap with the big retics and burms, I worry more about the heavy body snakes being 'hooked' then the little ones that can climb on it lightly. Just IMO.
