I just picked up 250 crickets from the local pet shop. They've made themselves a damp corner in the eco earth and are now VERY busy laying eggs. How long before I can expect to see the teenies hoppin' about the place?

BallPythons9 08-02-2010, 10:59 PM A believe it takes about a week for the eggs to hatch, maybe a bit longer. Quig 08-02-2010, 11:29 PM Thanks Joe. Well if I keep control of this I should never run out of crickets, eh? Sara 08-02-2010, 11:42 PM I've never bred crickets so I can be wrong here, but I think what you need to do is pull the adults out before the babies hatch cuz they'll cannablize them. Then grow up the little ones and rinse and repeat... Quig 08-02-2010, 11:45 PM Then grow up the little ones and rinse and repeat... No, no, no, no. They'll certainly drown if I do it that way :lmao: :wamma: Gottcha Sara. I've got a spare tank I can set em up in too. Will try to wait till all that are going to lay eggs get that chance though. Stillwellserpents 08-02-2010, 11:53 PM if you look up the dirty jobs episode where Mike went to Ghan's cricket farm (I think thats the one) they give you a step by step process of what they do. Hope it helps Quig 08-02-2010, 11:54 PM if you look up the dirty jobs episode where Mike went to Ghan's cricket farm (I think thats the one) they give you a step by step process of what they do. Hope it helps I forgot about that show. Thanks. :D GenePirate 08-03-2010, 12:30 AM It took about two and a half weeks for ours to hatch. And, boy are they small--gnat sized or smaller. Just keep switching out lay boxes every two weeks and let them incubate. Every 2-3 weeks, you'll get hundreds of little tiny pinheads. How long before I can expect to see the teenies hoppin' about the place? two things you need for the eggs to hatch.....moisture and heat. if you provide both they should hatch within 10-14days.....but could take as long as 30days to hatch. main things is to keep the substrate moist...not wet. provide heat either above or below works well. more heat and the faster they grow....the sooner they die. once they hatch provide water and food 24/7.....they grow pretty quick so you may want to divide them up as they grow. save one batch for future breeders to let the cycle continue. good luck!
