This little guy came into the world ass-backwards' literally. For some reason the back of his shell split the egg open in the back rather than cutting the front open with the egg tooth, then he just laid there for 2 days with his ass sticking out and his head burried inside the egg untill his yoke was absorbed. I guess he was just to big of a fat ass, so I think I will name him Cartman (as in south parks Cartman) He looks perfectly healthy and no extra or deformed scutes, he's pretty shy now but I'm sure he will warm up in time.

Thanks all, but I have some bad news too. This clutch started with 4 eggs, and thankfully I still have another 4 eggs from another clutch cooking that stiil look good, but about a week ago one of the egg split open and yoke spilled out and so I left it alone but after a few days is started smelling so I peeked in and the half developed turtle would move at all and I left another day and still no movement and was clearly dead and rotten so I disposed of it. Today I cut little slits to peek at the other two eggs and one was just mush an no developing embyro or viens, and the other one has a fully developed turtle but no movement or viens, I will certainly give it time in the incubator just in case, but at this point it doesn't look good. On a brighter note all 4 eggs from my second clutch of 3-strip mud turtles hatched during the last couple days, so that makes 10 out of 10, 3-striped mud turtles sucessfully hatched for the year, will post pics later.
sorry on the losses from your first clutch. good luck on the ones still in the inc.!
Sorry to hear about the rest of the clutch Jeff, that's so frustrating! I know how it is though, heck, I had sulcata eggs explode once, that was a horrible stench on top of a huge dissapointment.

Well not too surprised with how this clutch turned out, I noticed right away that the eggs were very thin and low on calcium, they reminded me of when my corn snake females that I used to have would have that second clutch for the season and the eggs shell would be thin and transparent, which usually meant the babies would be born small and snappy, so I am wondering if this wasn't the second clutch of the year and I never found the first, could have hatchlings hiding outside in the pen and I don't even know about it. But hey at least one hatched which is much better than none :yessir:
