Are there any visual markers for a het albino BP? The boas have the eye thing when they are born het. So I wondered if there was a marker for BPs.

Ive seen some videos where breeders have pointed them out. From what I understand, and Im no expert on BP morphs I assure you, but some het balls seem to have these little "points" in their pattern on the underbelly. These would be the markers.

From what I have read its no guarantee. But its a very good chance that snake is a het.

Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in and clear this up once and for all since I am quite interested in this topic.

Good post, Sid! Looking forward to where this goes.

I think a lot hets do show pointers or markers. Whether be a busy pattern or belly markers like the het pieds..

It seems what I've personally noticed with het albinos is a somewhat of a banded pattern..

Boss, have you ever had some poss hets, some had the markers and some didnt, only to find that when you bred them those with markers were indeed hets but those without were not?

Something I would like to know as well. Anybody have any pics of these "markers"?

Can someone PM me about these het albino markers in boas? I have never heard this before. I happen to have some DH Sunglows, and I know they are 100% het, so I'd like to see what these markers are, and look for them.

As far as telling het albinos, I have not heard or do I know any way to tell them. Aside from the label on the box you would not be able to tell any of mine apart from the normals I have! I know the het pied deal and I hope to find out this year for myself and from what others have said it is good. However I have seen 100% het pieds that dont have the markers? Is it a guarantee, no but I pick poss hets with it! I have some poss het caramels and they have fleck scales of caramel color on them? Does this make them hets, I dont know but it would be cool if it is a way to tell them! I will find out! As far as boas I have never heard the eye thing, I have heard to look for the white fleck scales and I had two poss hets that had it and they both proved het.

I've noticed alot of het albino balls to have spotted noses...

other than that I'm not sure of any other markers...

Here's one of our lil' boy's Spot a dbl het albino/ghost... he's got spots on his nose and a very reduced and banded pattern.

Like this pattern??? This is my 100% het albino male. I have always thought it was a kinda odd pattern on his belly.

Steven, those are Bugger Balls........lol I think a lot of what people see is just from the parents and not necessarily the gene they are carrying......

Yea I have lots of hets from several different morphs that have "buggers". I dont think any "markers" are 100% accurate accept in the case of true visual hets like anything that has a "super".

I dunno... I'm saying all het albino's have the markers...

I don't think that any recessive has any truly guaranteed marker that is accurate in picking out the true hets... however I've just happened to see a fairly good amount of het albino's with the boogers... maybe it is with the parents but I've seen more booger balls that were het albino than not het albino... but just like with het pieds... there are normal's with pied markers and hets with markers... but I guess if you were picking out 66%'ers it might help???

Although that line of pied Graziani is working with... the actual hets themselves are pretty incredible looking.

Great feedback, thanks for posting everyone.

The het albino boas have what some call a "light bulb eye" look to them. I think it was Jeff Ronne that pointed it out first and many people have confirmed it. It is not a 100% sure way of picking out het's, but it can be a big help in a poss litter. You have to see them when they are less than a few months old and you also need to have the siblings to compare to. Evidently the eyes are much whiter on the top half, in het albino babies. I know Jeff wrote an article on it somewhere and many people have saved a lot of money on poss hets that they were able to pick from a litter.

I've noticed that also boss, obviously you couldn't say that every 100% het albino has a banded pattern or that every animals with a banded pattern is 100% het albino but it seems to be one of the traits in the het albinos.

I wonder if anyone that has produced possible het albino clutches has used that as a way to pick out the hets? Kind of like how Phil picks out his poss het pieds. Just curious :D

I own 3 Het albinos and honestly I don't see anything between the 3 that would suggest they're het for anything.

Steven, I have about 50 het albinos at this point with babies and adults and if I mixed them in I bet you could not tell me from the normals! As far as the bugger, I have a female that is close to 30 and she is normal and has it. It is genetic as some of her babies have it also but if she was a het albino I think with all the times I have bred my albino to her I should have produced one????
