It seem like it takes for ever for my rats to become the size of a medium. I'm using the dog food you can get from tractor supply called doggy bags if that helps. B.T did you see a difference in growth when you switched from dog food to actual rodent food? How long does it take your guys rat to grow to the size of a medium or even a large?
That is the problem, it does take time! Males will get there faster than females and I know the food you use. It is 18% protien and I have given mine it when I did not have regular rodent block. I think mine do better on the rodent diet but that just might be me......

Phil pretty much covered it. And I too have seen a growth difference when feeding dog food vs rodent block. They grow faster with the block.

Honestly never weighed them before. Just go by size. But I can weigh the sizes out for you too if you would like. Cage cleaning is this Friday.

I'm just asking out of curiosity. I consider a waener to be 60-80 grams, small rat to be from 80-120 grams, mediums from 120-220- large as 220-300, extra larges and jumbos up from there.
This is just the numbers of weaners from my colony, they are heavier and bigger than online frozen thawed sellers consider them.

I noticed a huge increase in when I switched from using Purina Lab Chow to Mazuri Rodent Breeder so I can imagine there would be a huge difference from dog food to rat chow. Not only do my rats get larger but they also have larger litters of pups.
It takes one of my pups about 20-25 days to go from pinky to medium.

Rocko - I use the same "Doggy Bags" as you and love it...I actually switch back and forth from that to Kent...I can't tell any growth difference but I really don't pay that close of attention to em...I'm always growing holdbakcs up for replacement breeders and the rest get fed off pretty quick...I just need to get off my lazy ass and build a few more rat racks...

What is your sized of medium?
I use the Rodent Pro size chart. So my mediums are the same as their frozen mediums.
