It looks worse than it actually is... I have been there a few times... Never swelled like that though... Just slightly right around the site of the bite...

People have nothing to worry about when it comes to hog bites... No serious or long term damage will result from a hog bite...

Great info and photos -Jj-...

Nice tag.

I'm always afraid when I see this kind of post. I don't want people to become scared or think a hognose bite will cause lasting damage.

I've been tagged a good number of times (9 times out of 10 it's feeding time) and have never had any major problems other than a little swelling.

I hope the swelling goes done soon for you.

I like to use 12" tweezers when I feed all hognose. Hognose have zero to no aim when it comes to feeding.

Ain't that the truth! Plus they like to try and swallow whatever happens to wind up in their mouth when there's food around even if there's a 170 lb human on the other end of that pinky finger :lmao:

To be honest, I have gotten gartersnake bites that swelled worse than that...
Hog bites are really a non-issue... I still dont use tweezers... LOL

or ice. Ice helps keep the swelling more localized

If no one has seen this, its a pretty interesting step by step account of a Hognose bite with a heck of a swelling by Joe Monahan. To let you know, he let the snake really chew on him. So it was a quick bite and then let go.

Now if you do not know about Herpnet, its a site that is run with the help by Jeff LeClere for Iowa and Minnesota Herps. You can see Jeff in the Herpers movie field herping with Dav Kaufman.
