View Full Version : Third clutch laid last night!!!
jeff benfer 09-04-2010, 12:02 PM Third clutch of 2010, 4 more eggs laid on 9/04/2010, looks like we might have some Holloween babies. This makes 14 eggs from the female this summer. What a baby maker!

Yeah she is! Congratulations, that's cool!
jeff benfer 09-04-2010, 09:39 PM The interesting thing is that I checked the sand box last night because it looked disturbed like a next had been made and eggs had been laid, so I dug around in the sand and nothing, but when I dug around I realized that the sand was very dry, so I watered it down, sure enough she must have dug a test nest and had not found the right moisture and temp. but after watering the sand down she must have found it JUST RIGHT, because when i looked in the morning there had clearly been some digging under the basking light and found eggs right away 2 inches under the sand in that spot.

Good timing, that is SO satisfying!!!
jeff benfer 09-04-2010, 10:33 PM Yeah I know, it was like wow, I actually read the animal and the conditions and did something right and then was nearly instantly rewarded the next day with eggs. It was kinda like I was the "turtle whisperer" last night and the turtle whispered in my ear, "how about a little water with the sand" followed by "if you make it wet I will lay". Holy crap I'm on my 3rd glass of wine, time to cut me off, lol:lmao:
