An east way to start is to go to freewebs.com and set yourself one up. It is free and has a good base template. Good beginning for someone not to computer savy. That is how I started, and it gradually morphed into my own site with the help of a friend.

If you are completely clueless, then you'll likely want to look into a Web Designer, probably a Freelance one. There are a few on this site. It isn't the hardest thing in the world but if you're intending to sell your animals then you don't want to get any ole peice of crap template.

Im pretty good with computer (I build my own) and Im pretty quick to pick up software... so I took some computer courses to learn how to write HTML and use dreamweaver..... The software is not cheap but if you are really into it... then that is the way to go.

If your looking for cheap... try freewebs.com.

As for my sites... I have to pay around $100 a year for the hosting and $10 a year for each domain name.

If you hire someone to do you website.... dont be surprised if they quote you close to... if not in.... the four figures range. It really is alot of work to get the base site done...then its easy to make the updates.

He's right. My sites are usually with the $2-3K range. But as always you get what you pay for.

Shouldn't be too hard as far as HOW hard I'd have to actually look at it with Dreamweaver.

If you can use Word, you can figure out Dreamweaver. It's pretty simple.

Hook a friend up with a copy of Dreamweaver would you? lol! Just kidding but have been wanting to try it out for a while. I built my own site but all I know is very basic HTML. I handwrite all the codes and just do the best I can with what I know how to do.

Its not that hard... you will have to enter in some login info into dreamweaver for your hosting but then it is a breeze.

Im off monday... do you want me to PM you my number.... and you can call me and I can walk you thru it.

I checked out his site, his site is 90% images...no amount of dreamweaver can do anything about that.

True, but he didn't mention what he wants to change. If it's some of what happens to be text, it should be a breeze.

I will never understand why people still put what can easily be done and look good in html into images. It drives me nuts. Just because we've got high speed internet, and alot of small sites will never exceed the transfer limits of hosting companies, doesn't mean we need to be throwing large files around the net.

For software I'm using Frontpage and it's as easy to use as MSWord - it's really simple to update pages (if I ever get a round-twoit to do it). It's not got all the bells and whistles of Dreamweaver but for someone that just wants basic it works quite well. I'd like to tinker with Dreamweaver but I'm really not that savvy so I don't know if it's worth the $$$ for me -- might see if I can find an old version on ebay for cheap.

As for hosting I have one site on Go Daddy and another on Yahoo -- the Yahoo one gets a lot more exposure -- Yahoo is about $12/mo and includes the name Go Daddy is about $60 a year including the name (also depends alot on how much space and mailboxes you want -- I've got very basic). There are no random advertisements that come with the free web page services - I hate those.

This also kills you with the search engines. They can't index images so they don't give you credit for the content and keywords.

Indeed. I have heard some of them working on software to figure out what is in an image, though I don't know if / when they would be using it. I doubt they would use it to parse text in an image, though.

Oh, crap.. It is all images. I took a quick look before, and thought that the text on the available page was text, but you're right, it seems all the text except for the contact form is images. Well, BT, if ya got photoshop or some other image editing software, you can update your site. Not as easy as Dreamweaver, but still not too complicated.

I just got done looking at BT's website... that would be easy to update in Dreamweaver. Just change the graphics around (providing it was done using tables to begin with)

His is no worse than my photography site www.kevinbatchelorphotography.com

I don't think you understand, he'd need to edit the images too, and he doesn't have Photoshop and Photoshop isn't exactly beginner friendly. There is 0 text on that site, it's all pictures and random peices of flash.

This kinda leads me to what I said before though find yourself a decent freelance web designer and view all of their work. Don't expect it to be like dirt cheap but as always, you get what you pay for. Also see if you can get ahold of that designer's previous clients and see what they have to say about them (this is extremely important!).

Well you can't. The guy made the site in Photoshop, cut it up, arranged it in dreamweaver, used a few basic dreamweaver scripts (Not necessarily a good thing) and called it a day. BT and I are in talks about his site so maybe we'll see a new revision by me. I swear I'd rip someone a new ass if they pulled that shit on me.

Also SW, if you want a tip about how to figure out how it's being done without viewing the source, just highlight the site, usually "Blocks" of highlite area are pictures. I've been doing websites for so long I can usually see how it's done without looking at the source. I never thought anything of it when I looked at BT's site cause frankly I hadn't spent much time till today.
