This was in my co-worker's backyard up in the Pocono Mountains. Pretty snake... I was happy to learn he didn't kill it.

Can you guys confirm the ID?

the only one I have ever seen was hidden 4 foot deep in some little rock cave in the side of a bluff...I'm no help but glad to hear he didn't immediately chop it's head off!

Looks like it.. every picture (I have not seen one in person) I've seen of them they have that darker dorsal stripe. Where in the pocono mountains, cause that's my neighborhood. :D

That is a Yellow (light phase) Timber rattler.....as there is a dark phase to.....I really hope to find some of these next summer in Northeastern Pa myself :yessir:

Definitely a Timber. They're a real variable species, that one looks similar to some I've seen native to Minnesota. Glad he didn't kill it!

Yeah thats a Timber and a beauty at that. It has a dorsal stripe characteristic of the Canebrakes which I still consider a subspecies. A lot of "Timbers" don't have the stripe but some do. Again a very nice Timber and a fortunate encounter with a sadly disappearing species.
