I have been keeping these guys for almost a year now and I love them. I have a pair and I believe they are both females. The enclosure they are housed in is a 40 gallon breeder aquarium. I have tried to make this set up as natural as possible. I have a T5 light for the plants (even thought the skinks regularly destroy them) And a 100w incandescent for heat. There really isn't a great deal of care info out there on these guys so I have kind of been figuring it out on my own. I find it is best to provide both a thermal gradient and a moisture gradient for these guys. They seem to do best this way and I feed them a staple diet of crickets and every once in a while I will feed mealworms or superworms. They will eat off tongs for me so I think they can probably be hand fed if you work on it. Anyway here are some pictures of them and their setup.

First are the skinks

And some better pics of the enclosure they are in. It really needs replanted and I have thought of upgrading because the 40 breeder just doesn't have enough height. But these are the best photos I have. They are from about three months after I set it up.

This picture shows the custom top that I use. It's 1/4" glass with holes cut for a fan and for the heat lamp. This really keeps the humidity and heat in so the skinks and the plants stay happy.

This thing is really cool actually. I recently replaced the substrate because I was having mold issues due to my heat mat failing. But before that it ran for about nine months without ever cleaning it. The crickets and mealworms reproduced and basically took care of any big waste and the plants use it as well. Nine months and no smell at all.

Thanks for looking

The camera adds 10lbs, no. Actually for whatever reason they look fatter in the photo on my hand than they really are. They only get fed twice a week, three times if I offer worms. They are almost like a snake, one long muscle. And man they are strong for their size.

Nice looking, well planned enclosure. Im diggin the deep susbtrate and the closed top. I know these guys like to dig so they must be having a party in there.

Great looking skinks too. Any plans on trying to find a male for the two gals?

Awesome animals! I have seen them in pet stores and shows, but never ones that look so healthy! And the setup is awesome - what substrate are you using?

The substrate is just Eco Earth, that compressed coconut husk, with a little of Zoo Meds repti-bark mixed in. I do have a layer of Hydrotin as a base for it all as you can see in a couple of the photos.

That's part of the reason for the fan. Air circulation keeps the mold a non issue and it allows the enclosure to dry out a bit during the day when the lights and fan are on. If you have questions about how to make something along these lines I am more than happy to help.

Im here to be a whistle blower! Every time I go to his place, which is atleast twice a month, I never see the those skinks. He always says 'blah blah blah they are buried blah blah.'

I dont know man. I think its all a scam and those pictures of the skinks you pulled off of google.

Ok im an :ass:

That set up is better to see in person. the skinks are too. Although I honestly thinks its been 6 months since i have seen the damn things.

Great setup man, those skinks are killer looking. Great idea with the fan to keep the mold down also. I've always wanted to do a setup similar like that, but REALLY didn't want to have to deal with cleaning a big heavy terrarium.

Nice setup bro! I would love to have something like this but the ol lady wont allow it out of my "cave" in the basement and its too cold down there. I didnt realize the skinks got that big!!!

Alright, had to prove you wrong bud. This pic was taken not more than fifteen minutes ago when I went in to mist the enclosure down. Granted they aren't usually right next to each other, but this is how they sit most of the time. Great now when my girlfriend sees this I will have to hear "awwwwww this is sooo cute, they are cuddling." Anyway here is the shot!
