View Full Version : What's the going rate on ASF's?

So I finally started my own rat colony about three weeks ago (thanks in large part to the BLC) and now I've got the bug. I would like to get into the ASF's, but the only local supplier I've found sells his ASF's for $13 a piece. Is that about the going rate for these little boogers? If it is I'll just bite the bullet and get some, but it seemed kind of expensive.

How much did you all pay for your first ASF breeders?

Thanks in advance,

I've seen them at shows for $3 - $5 each.... for animals close to adult size. That can of course vary depending on the show and or sellers.

I got mine for 2.50 a piece at one of the local pet stores a little while ago. They're not selling them anymore. I got their breeders actually lol, they we're supposedly done breeding so I just fed off the male and a few days later the damn female has babies! I think she ate most of them though there's only two left lol and I just don't have space to start an ASF colony right now. UGLIEST BABIES EVER!

Down here is south Florida. They have them listed from as high as $10.00 per. I bought 25 for $50.0 at a local show

It pretty much depends on where you are and if there is a good supply of them -- I produce much more than I need so I end up begging my friends to come get some -- but I've had people offer me a lot of money for a breeding pair (cause you can't get them where I'm at).

I see them for $2 each most of the time around here, $15 for a trio pretty much ready to breed......

THANKS EVERYONE!!!! :yourock:

That's pretty much what I figured. My local supplier is a guy who is VERY well known for charging super high prices. I figured I'd check with my peeps here before I forked over too much dough.

Guess I'll wait for the NARBC expo in February to start my ASF colony.

Thanks again,

3-5 bucks each in north fl. at most places but they are hard to find. Last we paid about 2.00@ for a handful for babies to raise for breeders. We have a decent sized colony now.
