Are there any species of kings that are arboreal or semi-arboreal? I have a 30H tank (24x12x24) that I'd like to make a natural setting for a king. I'd like to utilize the tank's height. I'm going to a reptile show in early October, so I'd like to set up the enclosure prior to the show. Thanks.

No. All kings (Lampropeltis sp.) are terrestrial and fairly secretive.

No, as Dan also stated, they are all terrestrial and pretty secretive. You would do much better with any number of ratsnakes or other arboreal colubrid. Or .........simply forget about utilizing the tank height and get a king regardless..LOL!

Thanks Dan and Doug, I'm definitely looking for a new king, I just might use a different enclosure. I've only kept holbrooki in the past. Maybe I'll use that 30H for a rough green.

Sure thing man.
Yes, that tank would work absolutely great for a Rough Green Snake!

Just a warning, I tried many times to keep green snakes and they just don't do good long term. Don't know why but most just don't. There may be some exeptions but, a rat snake would love some bracnches. Any of the Obsoleta would do nicely. A yellow, black or an everglades.

Yeah, I have heard that from some folks too. I had several as a kid in the late 60's and 70's, but it is hard for me to remember just how well they did for how long. I definitely remember them eating lots of insects like caterpillars, cockroaches, grasshoppers and crickets, etc..
I would think these snakes would do fairly well in a very roomy tall cage with branches, and sprayed once in a while with a fine mist of water in the cage and branches and leaves and such, and might benefit with some UV lighting a bit more than other types of snakes too since they are very diurnal(daytime dwellers).
I would think some of the real experienced guys on certain forums would have their husbandry down pretty darn good by now.
I KNOW!,....let's ask FR Jorge!..HAHAHAA!! :lmao: :lmao:
