SO I have some money that came loose that I need to invest.
I am thinking stocks, the market is down and stocks are a great investment if you buy now...
AS I am looking at the numbers I hear this little voice going “crap man, that right there is enough to bring in Lav albino’s from the US” (that is still a shit load of money out here in SA)
I get excited, drool on the keyboard, have a minor fit and then as my investment guy walks in somehow compose myself...
I sit through 30 min of dribble on market talks, future’s....hedging risks blab la bla...my brain does not compute...I am 5 years old again throwing a hissy fit cos my parents have just said no to going to the reptile park (we have been there 5 times in the last 3 months...)
My Investment guy finally finishes and says, “so mate, what do you want, Anglo? Sin stocks?...what do you wanne do”
I calmly say Lav Albino...he frowns, fumbles through his docs and says, I don’t know that one....
I explain, he thinks I am having him on..taking the piss out of him... when he realizes I am not kidding he gets distraught, he thinks am being conned by some Chinese woman who keeps screaming “Sakkie sakkie 10 dolla...LOVE you long time...”
I explain to him:

Stocks: 20K buy in now, IF all goes REALLY well, worth K60 in 4-7 years time
Probable total return on 20K...200%
Risk level: Med-high

Lav albino retics: 20K buy in now, rolling return of K50-200K (depending on market and breeding success) from 4 to 7 years for 2 year running periods and one year off from there on...
Probable total return on 20K over the first 2 breedings...1000%-2000%....and that is just in the first two seasons....from there on out...I start ordering Lambo’s....
Risk level: High-Very High
I show him the numbers and he just kind of shook his head ,softly said “you’re out of your mind...” and left...
So now I pose the challenge to you , my fellow reptile maniacs:

Apart from investing in a Indian sweat shop manufacturing little Obama hats, show me a (legal) investment that comes close...
No Prizes for guessing where my money is going...

Yes, I felt bad for the guy...he is a friend of the wife’s family, so this is going to be heard off...
I just got the quote from the reptile broker and it looks reasonable.
Now it is just the3-6 month wait for import permits and then the 30 day quarantine...
But darn excited!!!!!!!

(depending on market and breeding success)

Conventional wisdom insinuates that the market band for retics can safely be counted on to continue as relatively narrow and thus not something that one can hang his or her hat on. Reason being the retic's size pushes them beyond the grasp of a broad market base such as that the smaller boids find themselves in.

@ Desert
Agreed, with retics getting as big as they do the market is limited.
But there are VERY few peaple out here that have albino retics, lots that want though, so the market should be rather stable and good for some time.
I also love retics, and I feel one should stick to what you love.
