Just wondering if Bloods and STPs are actually considered a "Swamp Snake". I've heard conflicting ideas on this. Just wondering what everyone though? I've heard from Dave Barker that Bloods are NOT from a very wet climate and that they are NOT aquatic at all. When a distribution study was done of retics, burms and bloods they found that retics and burms were found in the low lying "swamp" areas, but bloods were found at higher elevations where humidity was lower and no swamps around (more mountainous). Kara mentioned that they like cooler temps (consistent with higher elevations)...more room temp. at 78-80 degrees and around 65% humidity.

Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this!

They must have just changed that, because I'm pretty sure I got the idea of swamp snakes (I believe) from the VPI blurb in their caresheet.

But on reviewing it now, it says they do live at the higher elevation in the lands SURROUNDING the swamps and lowland farm fields, and are only occasionally found in swampy areas.

I think what kara said makes sense. I keep mine on newspaper and in the bottom of the rack. Humidity runs about 60% and ambient temps are around 78, hot spot at 88. I've never had trouble with sheds at all. But at the same time they will soak for long periods of time if you give them the opportunity, and it doesn't mess up their skin. So I guess they may not be "swamp" snakes exactly, but the fact that they do like to soak makes me think that they are at least a little aquatic. Interesting topic for discussion.

i agree they like to soak and they are alittle aquatic but you dont want to keep the whole cage wet.
