Where did you buy that Cypress at? I found the good double shredded stuff at a local mom and pop shop...
Larry 10-13-2008, 10:47 PM Same type of place mom and pop hardware store. You like?
pwilliams58 10-13-2008, 11:00 PM So this stuff doesn't mold? Is there any way to get it shredded in smaller pieces? I'd be afraid of my bps swallowing a big piece of that.
147BOAS 10-25-2008, 10:01 PM that stuff is good
grunt_11b2007 10-25-2008, 10:20 PM Man I can't find non-blended cypress anywhere!! I've looked at Lowe's, Ace, Wally world, and a small mom and pop mulch place.. No body has it.?? I really want to put my big girls on this too.. I have a guy I'm e-mailing about getting it delivered, but I'd have to buy a half load which is like 10 pallets.. The pallets have 75 2cf bags. It's like 150 bucks a pallet with a $100 fuel surcharge.. I just don't have a place to put all that cypress.. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out..

Alan, how far are you from Florence SC? That's where Kamlar is and you can pick it up there one pallet at a time @ $160 for 80 2 cubic foot bags. It's double milled which should eliminate the big pieces. It's 100% cypress.
JChandler 10-26-2008, 08:42 AM I emailed Kamlar after Phil gave the name of that double shredded stuff, found a place about 30 mins away....
Good find Larry.
Larry 10-26-2008, 09:52 AM I'm happy with this stuff I'm using above. I love it. I never new cypress to be so fluffy..Nice..:)

Have to agree. 'Fluffy' is not a work I would have used with cypress until now. Great stuff!
Rick247 10-30-2008, 04:25 PM I can never find stuff dry enough here in Ohio. Maybe Im not looking in the right spot. I just use old used newspaper.
Sputnik 10-30-2008, 04:31 PM I think I need some of this fluffy stuff!
Larry 10-30-2008, 04:47 PM Yea I never realized how different good cypress is from cheap gas station cypress. I'll never use anything else. This stuff is the bomb. Never molds, holds humidity beautifully, cleaning is a breeze.
I also believe the animals are less stressed and thrive on it. It's so nice and fluffy, the snakes can burrow down and disappear.. Great for problem feeders..
Alicia Holmes 10-30-2008, 08:27 PM ill get pics of my bags. 6 bucks a 25lb bag. Its all cypress, no mix. been using it for a bit now and i really really like it! Cypress is by far the best substrate ive used for the snakes yet.
JOHNS6068 11-02-2008, 03:33 PM I'd like to try it. But I'm also having a hard time finding a local place that carries it. I hear nothing but good comments about it lately.

right now will be harder than normal. i searched high and low before i found a source. I need to go nab a few more bags of it so i dont run out for the winter.
Right now it will be hard to find. To landscapers, its expensive stuff, but for us, this is CHEAP! and its EXCELLENT! :D Try any gardening stores, Kmarts and such, and just read the bag.
smilin-buddha 11-02-2008, 04:49 PM Bt applies Pam does anyone else treat the mulch.

Yep, I use the provent a mite as well. Great stuff. Kills dem bugs dead.
Be better safe than sorry. Its simple to just prevent mites and them weird little wood mites by just treating every time you add new bedding.
JChandler 11-02-2008, 07:59 PM I have to dry my stuff out before I use it so I tend to do alot of stirring it up in the process but I only treat when I see things in it. Plus I do dry some of it in the oven at 200 degrees for the ones I want it extra dry for so if the bugs live in 200 degrees for 30 mins then I will let them thrive when they come out...
Chimpkin 11-03-2008, 03:26 PM I just switched to cypress this week and the jury's still out. This is the first time I have ever used it. I had to dry mine out really good. I still can't get used to having condensation on the front of my tubs. You don't get that with aspen.
Nutsboutballs 11-03-2008, 05:34 PM Is this the same cypress mulch you buy from home depot in the garden area?
I just read Larry posted $8 a bag so I am not sure it is the same. In home depot here it's like $3 a bag.

No it's not. Home Depot's Cypress is a mix, I called the company (number was on the bag) to find out if it was 100% cypress. Have to say was happy the guy was honest when I explained what I was looking for and that I couldn't have pine it.

I don't apply anything.. Zero bugs. I think that just is a crap shoot though really, some bags will have some small wood flies and such but nothing that can harm the snake..
I was always told that cypress resists insects and mold? I have never treated any of my stuff.....

The new stuff that Phil directed me to hasn't had one single bug in it.
