Has anyone used Hatch Rite? I use it for the first time this year. I do not like it. I had to keep adding water. It was hard to keep the eggs at the correct humidity. Either too wet or too dry.

JChandler 10-16-2008, 07:50 PM I have used it and love the ease but I was having some issues with the colubrid eggs hatch rates with it last season. This year the gecko eggs have been fine with it and after 60 days I am still getting an 80-85% humidity rate so it may have something to do with egg sizes...still have some more experimenting with it before I am convinced 100%. Either too wet or too dry. You're not the first I've seen to say that. A member of another site I frequent had serious issues with some BP clutches using it. BT 10-17-2008, 12:05 AM Nope - Never used it...I'm a vermiculite man myself - If it ain't broke don't fix it... JChandler 10-17-2008, 07:26 AM You're not the first I've seen to say that. A member of another site I frequent had serious issues with some BP clutches using it. I know someone right now that is using it with a bp and chondro clutch and the bp eggs are huge so I am waiting to see how it turns out and pick his brain to see what he added if anything to it. I started to use it because hell open a bag and go seemed so easy but this season I am staying away from it for the snakes for right now. I would prefer the higher hatch rates even if I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off before work trying to get containers set up. jcashman 10-17-2008, 10:46 AM I tried it this year on a clutch of retics and a clutch of balls with no problems. Because of the price I think I will just stay with perlite and vermiculite Phil 10-17-2008, 11:24 AM I have tried a few things but I am back to just straight vermiculite. I have had the best luck with itand I cant knock success...... 147BOAS 10-18-2008, 02:35 PM brian from BHB siad its good to use constrictorkeeper 10-18-2008, 04:51 PM a little egg crate for the dry clutch crowd. truth will set you free. ck CBMorphs 10-18-2008, 05:53 PM I used it and absolutely love it. I did not have to add water at all. I had great hatch results with it. I did not poke holes in the tubs at all. Maybe thats why I did not have to add water. shrap 10-19-2008, 11:55 AM Never used it, never will. Half and half Perlite and water, by weight, has never let me down. If it aint broke dont fix it. TnT Reptiles 10-19-2008, 02:10 PM I used it this year and had no problems with it at all. I only had 2 clutches but everything hatched out great. I will definately be using it again this year. pwilliams58 10-21-2008, 01:29 AM For my first year I think I'm gonna go with vermiculite. As I always say, if its good enough for Ralphie its good enough for me! |
