Walked out on the patio tonight and found this under our table. Little guy was trying to keep from being swallowed by splaying his legs out as far as possible!

Dang, you had all kinds of stuff going on! Snake... half a toad... spider watching it go down.. and falling leaves too! Nice!!

He'll get it eventually. I've watched my hoggie do a 180 degree mouth walk around a toad to get it in proper position for swallowing. Which has gotten me thinking much lately on the old "Can a python swallow a human?" thing.

If a python can do with a human body what a hoggie can do with a toad it's more than possible, it's doable.

Nice shots, by the way. Sorry I got sidetracked.

Nice shots! I know I've witnessed this myself twice and it was so cool. I had never really thought that garters would eat toads until I saw it.

Yeah sorry, I meant to clean up first! :lmao:

I figure once the snake gets past the front legs it's all over.

Very cool pics. I have only witnessed this in the aquarium. It is cool hearing the air leak out of the toad as the snake advances.

Apparently this is mom as we found a very small Checkered baby this afternoon, it was too fast for the camera.

Yes sir, garters will definately take toads if they come across them.

And they lock into place . More juice for my snake eating humans arguement. :D

It's just so crazy to see what a snake will go through to eat a meal :wamma:.

Apparently she's just given birth not too long ago so I'm sure she's ravenous. We've spotted 3 babies so far. Anyone know the average litter of these Checkereds? I looked them up in the "Field Guide to Texas Snakes" and it says up to 38, which I highly doubt this little girl threw that many. This is also the 2nd year we've seen babies so we've got a pair sticking around.

I'm not to familiar with checkerds but when I was a youngster I caught an eastern that was every bit of 30 inches long and gravid. Two days later I had 44 little wiggle worms in the enclosure.

Ouch, I'll keep that info away from the old lady as she's already griping about having seen 3 babies tonight. She's fine with 31 ball python babies in the house, but mention wild Checkereds and she's out! :lmao:

Reminds me of that cartoon picture with the frog choking the Crane and it says "Don't ever give up"

That's just too funny :lmao:. A gal that can handle 31 pythons in the house but not a garter. PLEEZ don't tell me she's afraid of them.

No not afraid, just doesn't like them running loose on her patio. :lmao:
