Yessir!! Mech Infantry in the Queen of Battle. We were referred to as Crunchies due to the sound bones & equipment make if a driver wasn't paying attention.

My dad started out in the Marines and moved to the Army so he could go SF. He called it an upgrade , lol.

LOL, I was with the 5th Inf. Mech in Nam. We were ridin' M113 an 114 armored personel carriers back then. Do they still use those things? I was an M60 machine gunner.

They still had 113s as TOC vehicles when I left. My dad has a 114 ( I think ) sitting up on the hill waiting to be restored.

M60s have been replaced by SAWs in most respects. About the only time you see a 60 anymore is in a Special OPs unit but the Bradleys use a 7.62 cal. machine gun on the turret.

When I got to my first unit on Benning , they had just upgraded from 113s to Bradleys after Desert storm.

Quig you would be amazed with the new SAWs. They are so much more superior to the M60s. Belt or magazine fed, and a ltitle lighter. The accuracy is the big difference though. The SAW is more than just a squeeze and spray weapon like the M60 was....

Our Saws ( Big Red 1 days ) sucked so bad that it was an Article 14 offense to use the magazine port. our Saw gunners busted 7 firing bolts in one field mission.

The sucky part was the CO dictated the gunners use the mag ports to get familiar with using them and blamed the gunners & armorer for the damages.

Hasnt changed much... We had to do this on my first deployment (I didnt.... was an E6 by then... but my soldiers had to). On Kandahar Airfield, they used (when I was last there in 05) porta johns and had a "turd" lake they dumped it all in and set the entire lake on fire.... Talk about smelly!!!!!
