Great article. It's to bad the need for wood on the rest of the planet has contributed to almost all of the destruction of places like this all over the world.

Actually a lot of land is also cleared for farming. Rainforest soil is pretty deplete of nutrients. More and more land is cleared for farming but it can't be used for long due to no nutrients. So in essence trees are cut for maybe one or two crops and whats left becomes a wasteland. Its not worth it but they are doing it. When all is said and done it could become a desert over time. Very sad.
