I seen this as I was walking towards the front door. I have always liked this insect over all others.

Same here. I used to catch em and keep them for a week or two at a time just to watch them eat. Tried to breed a pair once, don't ask how I wound up with a pair :dunno:, and like black widows the female DOES eat the male after all the fun is over. I'm REALLY glad humans don't practice that behavior

Thats my favorite insect too. I used to collect egg cases in the winter and keep them in an unheated garage. Then I warmed them up in spring. It was cool seeing the little guys hatch.

You mean you've never seen the SciFi thriller "The Deadly Mantis" made in 1957?? It's a classic!

Mating in the maple tree in the front yard.
When I worked at a garden center I frequently found them in the plant shipments, and brought them home. Now I have a well established population of these interesting creatures.

Terrific! I've always been fascinated with mantids, too. We saw them only rarely back him in New England, but it was a real treat when we did.
