ssshane 10-28-2010, 09:38 AM I seen this as I was walking towards the front door. I have always liked this insect over all others.

Same here. I used to catch em and keep them for a week or two at a time just to watch them eat. Tried to breed a pair once, don't ask how I wound up with a pair :dunno:, and like black widows the female DOES eat the male after all the fun is over. :eek: I'm REALLY glad humans don't practice that behavior :yes:
Dan W 10-28-2010, 10:04 AM Thats my favorite insect too. I used to collect egg cases in the winter and keep them in an unheated garage. Then I warmed them up in spring. It was cool seeing the little guys hatch.

suely i have but the plus side of getting hit in the head with an airbag (wreck..short term memory loss) is you always get to watch 'new' movies and hear 'new ' jokes. :lmao:

Mating in the maple tree in the front yard.
When I worked at a garden center I frequently found them in the plant shipments, and brought them home. Now I have a well established population of these interesting creatures.
David Diamond 01-31-2012, 01:10 PM Terrific! I've always been fascinated with mantids, too. We saw them only rarely back him in New England, but it was a real treat when we did.
