When you set up your automatic watering systems do you buy the clips? Or do you just let the valves fall through the mesh?

Or do you just let the valves fall through the mesh? They are cheap insurance preventing mama rat from pushing the valve back up through the wire and everyone going thirsty until it is noticed. Or worse, after pushing the valve out they bite a hole in the water line if it is laying on top there, all tempting like. Rapture 12-15-2008, 02:57 AM I use the clips on mine. Clay Davenport 12-28-2008, 04:07 PM I stopped using the valve clips entirely. If you're using 1/2 inch screen and the standard Edstom valves (not the vari-flo) then the valves just barely fit through the wire, and sort of snap in place and are very secure. With 1/4 or 1/3 inch screen, I put the valve stem through the wire from underneath then attach the tubing. The tubing is too big to go through the wire so it traps the valve there so it can't be moved. Vari-flo valves and 1.2 inch screen though have to use the clips, you don't have much choice there. I quit using the vari-flo valves as well. After a few years of using both I noticed a much higher leakage rate with those than I did with the standard valves. Kevin Stoltz I haven't used clips in years and don't have a problem. The rats can't get to the water lines. It isn't a matter of being cheap, it's just that they are an unnecessary aggravation the way I have my racks set up.
