View Full Version : Let the fun begin!
JohnR 11-09-2010, 02:09 PM So I picked up these 2 neos from someone who wishes to remain anonymous for now. They come from some REALLY nice parents.
Problem is, they are currently not eating on their own. They have to be assist-fed. Once the pinkie is put in their mouth, they finish on their own.
They were born around May 20th of this year, so they aren't doing bad.
This is my first time attempting this, so wish me luck!
Oh yeah, reason I got them? The price was WAY too good to pass up. So low that I about fell down.
If you do some research, you can see what "local" they come from. ;)

BryGuy 11-09-2010, 06:33 PM Look like Jayas to me. Hope you get them going on their own!
JohnR 11-09-2010, 07:28 PM They are actually Afraks. Check out the parents:
dam
sire
Congrats on the pick-up's John...Good luck on the feeding trials -
I really like that dam too...
good luck getting them to kick in the feeding response!
JohnR 11-09-2010, 07:45 PM Thanks BT. I have a couple people on speed dial for the times when it might get rough! hehe
For $60, I couldn't pass up getting these 2.

Cherryblossom 11-09-2010, 08:47 PM All the best with those little lookers! Beautiful!! :) The parents are stunning!
Golden Gate Geckos 11-09-2010, 09:48 PM Sweet little neos! I hope you can get them eating soon....
Damon Theis 11-11-2010, 08:18 PM fwiw, if they are taking assist easily without spitting them out and requiring mutilple "plants" to get them to swallow, they will come around in my experience. Patience is the key... Most people give up too easily with problem hatchlings. My diangosis is of course without seeing them, but hang in there.
JohnR 11-11-2010, 09:31 PM From what I have been told by the breeder, they don't require multiple "plants" to get them to swallow. BUT, I will double check with him to make sure.
My first feeding attempt will be Saturday. I'm going to use pinkie scented with chick down. Patience is the key.
Damon Theis 11-12-2010, 10:35 AM Did the breeder mention if they are runners or not?
JohnR 11-13-2010, 07:10 AM He said they weren't runners
Okay guys - I am not fluent in the ways of the chondro - what do you mean by "runners"?
Damon Theis 11-13-2010, 11:51 AM He said they weren't runners
That's a major plus.
bsharrah 11-13-2010, 04:04 PM Okay guys - I am not fluent in the ways of the chondro - what do you mean by "runners"?
"Runners" refer to neos that tend to flee while attempting to feed. It is extremely frustrating trying to get the animal to strike at the prey while it is trying to escape from their tub. They can be very difficult to get started if they don't calm down.

Yeah, what he said. Runners are the worst.
diggityDawg 11-17-2010, 07:42 PM Fantastic looking little neos you got there John!
If you continue to have problems feeding them, I'd be glad to take them off your hands, and would pay you 3x what you paid for them... ;)
JohnR 11-17-2010, 08:33 PM Well, one struck and bit the pinkie, but dropped it. Repeated attempts resulted in nothing.
The other one wanted nothing to do with the pinkie.
So I assist-fed both. They swallowed the pinkies.
surfinball 11-17-2010, 11:22 PM They look real nice. Like the 1st one alot. Good luck with them.
JohnR 11-18-2010, 06:10 AM Thanks.
Apparently I did a bone-headed thing by posting the parents pictures here. I shouldn't have and now I wish this thread to be deleted since I can't edit my posts.
Sputnik 11-19-2010, 04:06 PM Thanks.

Club rules
5) A word about posting, we don't delete posts or threads here in the Bush-League so think before you post because once you post it, you own it.
JohnR 11-19-2010, 04:53 PM If you see the original post, Larry himself deleted the pictures. So exceptions CAN be made.
But I didn't want those deleted, I wanted the parent pictures deleted. which is in post #5 of this thread.
Leave the thread here, that's fine, but please delete the pictures. That's all I want/ask.

I put back in the baby pictures and removed the pictures of the adults since you apparently didn't have permission to use them to begin with, if I find out otherwise I will put them back in place. That is the reason the adult pictures were removed by me.
You want exceptions because you screwed up and have said as much, maybe cost that breeder a sale or two but most of all you posted numbers in a thread, backroom buddy deal even on defective animals is still a backroom deal and that is a line that can't be uncrossed.
