View Full Version : Target Trained Tegu
HiImSteveDuh 11-18-2010, 06:02 PM This is my little buddy Chaco. Well he's not so little any more. But he's a bit of a reptilian prodigy!

norsmis 11-18-2010, 10:10 PM Very cool man! Wish I could get my male boa to do this.... he still thinks anything that moves anywhere near him is a rat!
The Snake Guru 11-18-2010, 11:28 PM Very cool! Good to see the practice lives on. Though I have to say not quite a prodigy...large lizards including tegus, monitors, ect. Have been target trained since the 80s, started out in zoos....it is a great practice to get into with large food aggressive lizards though, the clicker is a new implimentation I haven't seen before, probably due to the poor hearing that they have people never gave it much pause.
Keep up the good work! He's definitely getting it down.

I was kidding about the prodigy part. I saw the trained Kamodo Dragons and was very interested to see if I could replicate the behiavior. I do think he has a bit of trouble hearing the clicker, but he seems to be able to hear it if I click it a few times. I have noticed that training has made him much more predictable and safer to work around.
ZombieTom 11-19-2010, 06:37 PM pretty neat.

He's a male. Right around a year and a half old when I made the video.
Really cool Steve. I wanna try this with my tegu, is that clicker for dog training or is that something else?
It's a dog clicker. I'm pretty sure it's out of their range of hearing though (or maybe he just dosn't want to let go) But either way, saying good boy for example works just as effectively.
S.Gilbert 04-05-2011, 06:39 PM Good job. Keep up the good work.
That is really cool! I would love to keep one of those guys but unfortunately i don't have the room...
BigJoe 04-09-2011, 11:49 AM very cool
